Job Description

Position Summary:

The Marketing Communications Specialist position is a hands-on, creative writing and project management function that serves as the "public voice" of Dean Health Plan and requires proven writing, media relations, project coordination and corporate communications experience. In this position you will have the opportunity to interact with internal managers and staff to guide, coordinate and execute strategic marketing messages through print, web, broadcast, appearances, events, speaking engagements, sales presentations, media relations, and other tools as required to effectively communicate with Dean's target audiences.

The Marketing Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, writing, and editing a variety of traditional and online marketing messages. Projects can include quarterly newsletters, press releases and other public relations activities, Web content, promotions, product brochures, technical materials, manuals, advertising, sales support and other marketing communications services as needed.

In addition, the Specialist actively participates in brainstorming discussions with other members of the marketing group to generate creative campaign strategies and tactics for new product launches and product enhancements.

Throughout the creative process, the Specialist works closely with our internal communications and design team to ensure the consistency of our brand, tone, and message and interacts with groups throughout the company to develop content. 

The Specialist will work with graphics staff to produce direct mail pieces and supervise production and mailings and support other marketing communications projects as needed. Additional duties may include execution of tradeshows and events, management of the company's internet marketing efforts and internal communications. 

Where applicable, the Specialist will be develop and maintain effective relationships with national, local and trade media.

Job Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in English, Communications, or Journalism.
  • 3 to 5 years experience writing marketing collateral
  • Superior writing/proofreading skills.
  • Able to translate technical features and benefits into compelling business value proposition.
  • Proven public relations and media relations experience, preferably with a range of consumer and business-to-business media.
  • Ability and experiences writing/editing press materials, including backgrounders, press releases, feature stories, alerts, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize a high volume of projects.
  • A customer service mindset and the ability to work as a member of a team, as well with all types and levels of professionals.
  • High level of self-motivation and the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Writing samples/portfolio is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Create and edit power and edit Microsoft Power Point presentations.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability Create content and develop graphics for website pages, e-mail blasts, direct mail pieces, newsletters and other collateral.
  • Proficiency in the use of Dream Weaver or similar Web applications a plus.
