Carroll University in Waukesha, WI is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Photographer. The Photographer reports to the Director of Public Relations.

The photographer is responsible for photographic service for all functions of the university, including scheduled and impromptu events. Individual and group subjects include alumni, staff, faculty, students, trustees, friends and community members. The photographer also is responsible for archiving photos and providing professional photos to a wide variety of constituents. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives work orders and confers with clients to determine photographic needs.
  • Organizes, manages and schedules photo shoots that accommodate the needs of all internal customers.
  • Takes photos of students, staff, faculty, trustees, architecture, and events.
  • Maintains a well-organized archive of new digital photos.
  • Edits/retouches digital images to ensure high-quality photos.
  • Provides photos to campus constituents, and local, regional and national media.
  • Assists graphic designers in locating and choosing appropriate photos for a wide variety of print and electronic publications.
  • Provides photos to the web manager for posting on the university’s website.
  • Provides administrative tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, photography or related field.
  • Two-three years of experience in photographing people and events, preferably in a newspaper, college or university setting.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Availability to work some evenings and weekends is a must.
  • Demonstrated experience with PhotoShop and other imaging software.
  • Proficient in the contemporary style of photography, especially photojournalism.
  • Training and experience in photography lighting in a studio and on location a plus.
  • Flexibility in taking a variety of images, from candid shots to portraits and specific photos for publications.
  • Must be willing to take direction from art director to ensure that photos for print and electronic publications are dynamic and appropriate.
  • Ability to relate to a wide variety of constituents and put them at ease.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, respond to immediate requests and work in a high-energy, deadline-driven atmosphere.
  • Must be energetic, creative, self-motivated, team-oriented, adaptable, efficient, respectful, personable and professional.
