The Senior Designer is responsible for concepting and creating of design solutions in alignment with WEDC brand standards. The Senior Designer ensures consistent graphic presentation of inventive concepts that have superior visual impact, including but not limited to reports, event marketing materials, presentations, brochures, advertising, sign displays, etc. In addition to hands-on design work, the role is responsible for managing and coordinating all of WEDC’s design resources, including marketing agency and freelance resources, and enforcing WEDC’s visual brand standards across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Designer will spend a majority of their time in these activities:

  • Enforcing WEDC’s visual brand standards across the enterprise by providing input, guidance, training, and judgement to safeguard and advance WEDC’s brand. 
  • Creating print and digital marketing materials in support of organization and divisional communication goals. 
  • Managing independent, freelance, agency, and/or contract design professionals to provide additional design capacity, achieve superior results, and deliver responsive solutions for the organization. 
  • Participate in developing and maintaining project-management systems to direct project workflow, ensuring necessary resources are acquired and scheduled to meet project deadlines. 
  • Collaborate with other units of Wisconsin government as requested to provide design services and manage design projects. 
  • Design business attraction proposals. 
  • Managing graphic files and adapting to meet various media specifications. 
  • Creating and managing WEDC’s library of visual assets. 
  • Creating and maintaining self-service templates for common design projects that empower WEDC personnel to rapidly create professional, brand-compliant presentations and other tools. 
  • Providing design leadership and production for WEDC presentations. 
  • Adapting advertising materials produced by WEDC’s marketing agency to fulfill WEDC-directed paid media opportunities. 
  • Managing printer and other production vendor relationships; obtain and compare printing quotes. 
  • Assisting in the execution of WEDC marketing plan. 
  • Act as business partner by modifying, recommending, interpreting and implementing overall marketing objectives, policies and procedures. 
  • Lead design for all digital and printed collateral required to support WEDC events. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field, or comparable education/experience/training is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in related field required.
  • Specialized graphic design training/education required.

Skills and Talents:

  • Expert knowledge in graphic design production process and print production processes.
  • Proficiency in current versions of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with digital media promotions.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal clients on multiple, simultaneous projects with concurrent timelines.
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem solving and time-management skills.
  • Strong conceptual skills, high level sense of design, layout and typography in a variety of design solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Strong formal presentation skills and the ability to be persuasive and adaptive.
  • Work well with tight deadlines in a team environment.
  • Proficient Macintosh or PC skills.
