Position Summary:

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana is seeking a motivated social media specialist. This is an exciting, fast-paced position in the evolving world of social media. This individual ensures that messages, content, and social engagement are relevant to both the target audience and the Girl Scout brand objectives. Candidates must have excellent relationship-building, attention to details, writing, and communication skills, along with a passion for the Girl Scout mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Creation and Development

  • With marketing team, strategize to create compelling content (written, photo, and video) for several social media channels, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Instagram Stories, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube. 
  • Create, own, and control the content calendar for several accounts across platforms, liaising with influencers and stakeholders. 
  • Help execute strategic social media content and campaigns for a variety of target audiences, including but not limited to leads, existing members, volunteers, donors, and brand partners. 
  • Day-to-day social media engagement of several social media channels (replying to questions and concerns, writing, and scheduling daily posts, adding new followers, following relevant accounts etc.). 
  • Respond timely to social media messages and comments, with clarity, understanding and solutions. 
  • Track, analyze, and report out the performance of social media posts and channels and make recommendations accordingly. 
  • Attend a variety of Girl Scout events and programs (both during and after traditional work hours) to capture and/or create social media content. 
  • Liaise with internal and external teams to produce creative assets (in-house designer, freelance photographers and videographers, etc.). 
  • Follow and develop best practices for social media and share with Girl Scout staff and volunteers.

Messaging and Brand Voice

  • Interview internal and external audiences via phone or in-person for long-form content, like press releases and blogs. 
  • Write value-added content offering thought leadership, information, and resources. 
  • Cultivate strategic relationships and work closely with key media influencers and partners to cross-promote social and digital content. 
  • Write, edit, and distribute messaging that promotes Girl Scout programs, fundraising initiatives, and community resources to a variety of internal and external audiences.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field 
  • 2–4 years of social media experience 
  • Timeliness and strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Social media campaign creation and analytics tracking experience 
  • Must have experience creating content and graphics for social media 
  • Must be familiar with social media scheduling and posting platforms ex. (Adobe Creative Suite, Sprout Social) 
  • Proactive, driven, and creative individual with strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technology and willingness to learn 
  • Have an eye for design and photography, including keen instinct about what’s on-brand

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong personal social media presence (please share!) 
  • Passion for girl empowerment and keeping up with generational trends 
  • Problem-solving, ability to take initiative, and de-escalating techniques 
  • Photography and video capturing and editing skills 
  • Photoshop and/or InDesign skills 
  • Paid ads creation and tracking 
  • Knowledge of blogging (WordPress preferred) and drafting press releases 
  • Experience making website updates or desire to learn
