Key Responsibilities:

The Specialist - Enterprise Communications is a foundational member of the Consumer PR team, managing and responding to inbound media inquiries, overseeing monitoring/measurement of media coverage, building and maintaining media lists and helping draft briefing documents, key messages and other communications materials for executive leadership. This role will also help provide PR support for many of United’s consumer-facing functions including customer experience, digital technology, network planning and onboard product. This role will proactively pitch news to reporters and will seek and seize opportunities to help secure earned media coverage of United in lifestyle outlets that don’t typically cover the news of an airline.

  • Manage all inbound media inquiries to the Consumer PR team, working with the team and United’s subject matter experts on an appropriate response 
  • Oversee media monitoring/measurement; effectively use our monitoring software to create recap reports for company announcements; report out on KPIs and alert team members to news coverage 
  • Build and maintain media lists Help draft briefing documents and staff media interviews/events 
  • Draft/send media pitches and follow up with reporters United values diverse experiences, perspectives, and we encourage everyone who meets the minimum qualifications to apply.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree Communications, Public Relations or similar discipline 
  • 2 years in a Public Relations or Communications role 
  • Strong writing/editing skills 
  • Ability to identify news trends and understand what makes a compelling story for reporters 
  • Experience with enterprise level media monitoring platforms 
  • Experience drafting media pitches/press releases and successfully placing earned media stories 
  • Comfort working in a highly matrixed, fast-paced corporate environment 
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and effectively prioritize 
  • Ability to take initiative and own their area of work 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship 
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification 
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
