The Girls on the Run® Communications & Special Events Coordinator must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education onimportant topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

The Communications & Special Events Coordinator is responsible for contributing to and assisting in the development, implementation and execution of GOTR's strategic communications and special events plan to help GOTR spread its mission of empowering more and more young girls in Southeastern Wisconsin. This position is split between Communications & Special Events. This person will report to the Executive Director and be in charge of leading overall direction of the Communications and Marketing plan as well as taking the lead on planning, implementation of Special Events.

Marketing and Communications (50%):

  • Lead marketing and public relations efforts on all internal and external communications, including but not limited to both internal and external brochures and documents development and deployment.
  • Update and maintain internal policy and procedure documents.
  • Develop and manage the GOTR image and story library used for marketing efforts and program communication
  • Develop and maintain local media relationships.
  • Maintain the GOTR Communications Calendar.
  • Develop and deploy quarterly newsletter.
  • Serve as liaison with GOTR Agency partners (Marketing, PR, Print agencies).
  • Write and distribute Press Releases Monitor and maintain consistency on all social media platforms. 
  • Work with video production firm to create GOTR video segments to support marketing efforts and promotion.
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns introducing GOTR program to new markets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations to increase community awareness and engagement.
  • Utilizing design software to update brochures and fliers as needed.
  • Create event signage for print production.
  • Create and maintain presentation materials including PowerPoint presentations and development documents.

Special Events (50%):

  • Plan and implement the annual Sneaker Soiree, including manage all logistics of event including securing venue, securing & managing vendor relationships.
  • Recruit auction committee and manage auction items, online auction bid system and auction committee.
  • Along with GOTR Marketing company, development of invitations and marketing materials for event Assist with planning and implement smaller VIP Community Ambassador/Partner events.
  • Assist Program with overall planning and implementation of 5K Maintain budgets for all events and report back to Executive Director.

Required Skills/Characteristics:

  • Passion for GOTR’s mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health.
  • Ability to serve as a role model, exhibiting GOTR core values
  • Two years experience working in Communications and/or Special Events management or related field
  • Two years experience working with local media.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with volunteers, board members, community and staff.
  • Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge: Google Docs, Excel, Web design knowledge and photo editing software.
  • Advanced knowledge : Adobe Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator or other similar design software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and be a tenacious problem solver.
  • Ability to collaborate with and serve as an engaged member of the GOTR team.
  • Ability to be flexible, nimble, and gracious.
  • A desire to go above and beyond what is required of the position in an effort to ensure the success of GOTR.
  • Ability to travel within the GOTRSEWI region using a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth, education, or wellness program)
  • Strong connections within the local community and media

Salaried (range $22,000)

Competitive Compensation

Schedule: Part-time (up to 20 hours per week), busier during GOTR season running from September-November and March-June, slower over holidays and summer, salary position.

No benefits. Lots of flexibility.

Office Hours: 1 days per week, option to work from home other hours.

Vacation Blackout Periods: Fall 5K (mid-November to early Dec), Spring 5K (mid May), Annual Fundraiser (end of Feb.), TBD GOTR special events.
