REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of Communications, ASGCT

EMPLOYEE STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY:  

The Communications Manager serves as the staff writer of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy’s website and has primary responsibilities for the overall voice and content of the Society to optimize the user experience and properly communicate the society messaging and brand. The positions is also responsible for maintaining an online community to promote the Society and its initiatives to a global audience as well as aid the professionals in the gene and cell therapy field to more easily connect and share ideas.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum 37.5 hours/week):

  • Manage the full spectrum of ASGCT’s communication outlets including websites, social media and other communication platforms
  • Write, assign, and curate multiplatform content profiling ASGCT initiatives to both a scientific and layperson audience
  • Work within a team environment to develop promotional strategies and implement campaigns that increase traffic to ASGCT websites and online communities including the use of search engine optimization (SEO) and digital advertising campaigns
  • Develop and implement innovative social media strategies to promote the Society’s initiatives and programs
  • Manage the Society’s digital communication schedule including broadcast/targeted emails, social media posts, and press releases
  • Write and edit clean copy using a combination of AP and house styles. Develop and manage website content to keep information accurate, relevant and innovative (scientific and non-scientific in nature) with the assistance of ASGCT staff, volunteer content experts or medical writers as appropriate
  • Work in concert with the technical teams and have a strong ability with web-based content management systems (ideally including Kentico) to create desired visual look and necessary navigation for best user experience for Society websites
  • Develop virtual communities appropriate for ASGCT audiences including developing the look, feel, navigation, content and services offered as well as promoting the communities to attract active users
  • Work with internal teams and ASGCT committees to create or coordinate campaigns, editorial calendars, and other key marketing initiatives
  • Develop strong partnerships with other appropriate and relevant online communities and external entities to enhance ASGCT’s virtual presence and impact
  • Serve as a resource for staff needs pertaining to website training, more extensive website updates, development of new pages and email communications
  • Create and analyze analytics reports on digital campaign effectiveness in an effort to maximize results as well as monitor all press and social media mentions
  • Develop and monitor budget in areas of responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently but also with teams both internally and with volunteer leaders. 
  • Must meet deadlines, have strong organizational skills and quantitative analysis abilities. 
  • Must be deeply familiar with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and other social media channels and have a good understanding of social media platforms and how they can be deployed. 
  • Knowledge of multimedia platforms including Adobe CS and Canva is a plus. 
  • Ability to use creativity while maintaining excellent communication skills in all forms.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, communications, or marketing.

Experience:

At least 3 years of content development/deployment/management (no programming required), digital marketing and/or social media management experience is a must, including a solid grasp of Web and email technology fundamentals.

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel of up to 2 weeks per year
  • Some evening and weekend work as needed
  • Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds
