The Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) seeks a communications specialist to support the external relations team on the development and execution of alumni and donor communications. This cross-functional role includes copywriting and digital production to advance WSB’s alumni engagement strategy, as well as editorial writing to produce high-impact stories that reach target audiences. The ideal candidate will have experience writing and strong communications skills, along with the desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment.

Position Summary:

This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Communications and works primarily with members of the alumni and external relations team on the development and execution of alumni and donor communications. This cross-functional role supports copywriting and digital production needs for the School's alumni engagement strategy. This position also helps tell important, high-impact stories to target audiences, including donors and alumni. Candidates should have experience writing, with the desire to learn and contribute to a fast-paced, growing advancement team.

Principal duties:

Marketing copywriting and digital production (60%)

  • Contribute to the development of communication, event and marketing tactics to drive alumni affinity and engagement
  • Draft dynamic copy for email, print, web and social channels to support alumni engagement initiatives and fundraising campaigns
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of collateral materials and reports
  • Create and distribute email communications through the School's bulk email system
  • Develop and execute a social engagement strategy and serve as community manager for the Wisconsin Business Alumni LinkedIn group
  • Incorporate analytics and best practices into daily work

Communications and publications (35%)

  • Assist with content planning, editorial writing and review, and other related production duties for Update magazine and donor reports
  • Conduct interviews and draft materials to support communications and donor stewardship
  • Contribute to the alumni news blog by developing, pitching and executing content
  • Monitor communication channels and identify opportunities for optimization and/or exploration of new channels as a medium for storytelling

Other duties as assigned (5%)

  • Serve on committees and project teams
  • Collaborate with campus partners
  • Staff alumni events
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of writing experience preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, fluency with digital communications, and strong written and verbal communication skills and time management skills required; well-qualified applicants will have experience with advancement editorial writing and copywriting for events and promotion. 
  • Experience in non-profit or higher education setting preferred. 
  • Editing and editorial planning experience is a plus.

Minimum: $40,000 ANNUAL (12 months). Depending on Qualifications.
