The full-time Content Specialist is responsible for the creation of on-brand, engaging content to use in various marketing channels, including social media, press communications, website, print, E-mail, and digital publications. This position will also monitor and support the organization’s social media channels.

In the immediate future, the Content Specialist will work primarily from home, though they may need to report to the WHS Milwaukee, Ozaukee, or Racine Campuses and surrounding areas to occasionally take photographs/video clips of animals or programmatic activities. This role will always require the ability to travel to those three communities, though long-term, primary work location is flexible.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research and draft brand-consistent stories about WHS programs and services for distribution on various media channels 
  • Take and edit photographs and video clips of animals, staff, volunteers, and events to support storytelling. 
  • Repurpose content for multiple channels, including social media, electronic newsletters, press releases, WHS’s website, print materials, telethon, event scripts, and more. 
  • Collaborate with other marketing/communications staff to deploy content in an effective and impactful way. 
  • Monitor and maintain interaction on social media posts and respond to inquiries and comments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Excellent written communication skills. 
  • Experience in public relations, journalism, or communications strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with photography, videography, and basic video editing strongly preferred. 
  • Strong social media experience on multiple platforms. 
  • Capable of handling high-pressure situations in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Capable of seeking and completing deadline-driven work assignments in an independent and highly motivated manner. 
  • Commitment to treat people and animals with respect and kindness.

Animal Handling:

  • Demonstrate proper animal handling when working with animals at the shelter per WHS standards.
