This position will serve as a Creative Lead (Graphic Design) within the UnitedHealth Group Creative Partners team, supporting the Optum business. We’re seeking an experienced print and motion graphic designer — who is talented, driven and passionate about their craft — to join our award winning in-house creative team. This individual would be the lead designer for their assigned projects and campaigns, collaborating with writers, their creative director, project managers, and marketers. The ideal candidate is a strategic thought leadership, works with minimal guidance, has excellent critical thinking skills who is able to process, react to and solve problems as they arise on tight deadlines in a team environment. The candidate will directly influence with subject-matter experitise knowledge and will design strategic, executive, high-profile projects. The candidate should have excellent relationship building skills, and feel comfortable interfacing with and pitching concepts to various stakeholders.

In partnership with our colleagues across the company, our internal creative team is the destination for quality, creative, innovative solutions to help support enterprise growth objectives. This position is aligned to the Optum Health B2B work, however there will be additional career opportunities to help support other business lines beyond Optum Health B2B, such as the UnitedHealth Group Brand, Optum Brand, Optum Insight, Optum Health B2C, and the Corporate Marketing and Events team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create materials for a variety of project types: one-pagers, brochures, invitations, infographics, research reports, tradeshows, etc. 
  • Create wide range of digital graphics: web graphics, advertising, email, social media, etc. 
  • Responsible for conceptualization and implementation of print and motion design solutions that meet marketing and content strategies from concept to completion 
  • Demonstrated ability to not only lead large-scale projects, but also create new, innovative strategic solutions while ensuring brand guidelines are followed and visual communication standards are met — while still pushing the brand forward 
  • Interpret and present complicated concepts in a visually appealing and clear manner 
  • Independently takes ideas and makes them better/comes up with and sells ideas 
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and our design team to ensure final design meets project’s goal and be the point of contact to problem solve and defuse situations when challenges arise 
  • Resolves process/quality issues by proactively escalating problems with solutions 
  • Assists in developing and execution of select creative strategies 
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively in person and virtually (email, phone, video conference) 
  • Oversee the day-to-day production of each project to meet all deadlines 
  • Demonstrated ability to self-train and immerse yourself into new experiences/types of work 
  • Work as a leader on the team and cast a positive leadership shadow. 
  • Mentor junior level staff 
  • Provides art direction to others on the team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 5+ years of demonstrated design experience working in an in-house creative department or agency 
  • Experience with website design and updates 
  • Proficient in Adobe Create Suite applications, such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Motion graphics experience with the ability to create animations, motion graphics and post-production video work. 
  • Experience storyboarding, sound-editing and working with voiceover 
  • Excellent communication skills; able to clearly articulate your vision to clients and provide insightful, efficient feedback to your team, both in person and in writing 
  • Adobe Animate experience 
  • Self-directed with the ability to mentor and lead as needed 
  • Anticipates potential problems and obstacles to project success, communicates concerns and develops solutions
