Design/Copy Editor

We are searching for a designer/copy editor to join our Waukesha office.

The ideal candidate must be a strong copy editor who can design news, sports and feature pages, write excellent headlines, and challenge and improve copy on deadline. Ideal candidates would have experience in CCI, InDesign or Quark Express. Candidates also must be able to juggle both design and copyediting duties simultaneously. Multimedia skills are a plus. Able to edit news and sports stories to ensure they are complete and clear, and follow newspaper style, and to prepare copy for both print and online publication. Assist reporters and editors in improving their stories by providing feedback on a regular basis. Design at least three newspapers per week.

Requirements:

• Two years of experience as a reporter, editor or copy editor at a newspaper preferred.
• Strong spelling and grammar skills, and a thorough knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook a must.
• Must be comfortable with a fast-paced environment and work under the pressure of tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator preferred by not required, as are video and audio editing skills.
• Proficiency in social media also a plus.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
