Designer/Art Director

The conventional job title is Designer/Art Director; the real role is Maker of Awesomeness. Because at Public Works, that’s what you’ll be and do. From designing and running social programs, to building better packaging design, to concepting big ideas and executing full blown campaigns, we’re looking for a designer who wants to challenge the notion of that title.

You’ll be instrumental in planning, creating and executing brand content across a wide range of clients, channels and mediums.

Must thrive in an energetic environment with like-minded peers and excel at building relationships across departments and with clients. We are inordinately collaborative in our work style, so the ability to jump in head-first while holding hands with others is a must.


Strategy & Ideation:

  • Create original, high-quality content that connects with brand ideas and drives impact. 
  • Develop concepts and collaborate with other team members to produce standout work 
  • Possess a solid foundation of design skills, need to be able to work on a range of clients 
  • Create brand style guides to define look and feel and copy tone 
  • Find, connect and produce ideas with a range of outside resources 
  • Lead the team through constructive feedback and contributions at creative reviews 
  • Manage time and expectations so that multiple projects are worked on simultaneously 
  • Think, design and execute across multiple mediums 
  • Participate constructively in agency and client communications


  • Ability to gracefully lead multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Competency in the Adobe Creative Suite of applications 
  • See projects through from concept to completion 
  • Possess the foundation of design and typography skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field/Ad or design school credentials 
  • At least 3-5 years industry experience 
  • Portfolio or work samples that make us say,“Whoa, that’s cool.” 
  • Can-do attitude and with a desire make the amazing happen within a team environment
