ATTENTION:

The Department of University Marketing and Communications in the Division of University Relations at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Digital Communications Specialist (Communications Specialist, CM004).

Academic staff positions are provided fixed term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent on performance, University funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, creating, implementing, and monitoring digital communications in support of the University’s goals, branding efforts and mission to transform lives. The position reports to the Executive Director for University Marketing and Communications.

The Digital Communications Specialist is primarily an on-site position with job duties performed at a designated work site. Occasional remote, off-site work is allowed with supervisor approval. Candidates must be able to work some evenings/weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Manages the University’s flagship social media channels:

  • A1. Plans, creates, organizes and posts content to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter 
  • A2. Plans, creates and executes social media campaigns in collaboration with other departments/units. 
  • A3. Responds to messages and engages professionally with social media followers. 
  • A4. Monitors and records analytics. 
  • A5. Keeps current on best practices and trends as they relate to the University’s social media strategy and University goals. 
  • A6. Coordinates with University marketers on social media marketing initiatives. 
  • A7. Serves as a social media consultant to other University users and as a University social media policy expert.

B. Writes and publishes content for communication and marketing channels:

  • B1. Writes, designs and publishes weekly email newsletter for the University. 
  • B2. Writes, develops, edits and publishes content and copy for a variety of digital platforms to align with strategic initiatives and communication and marketing campaigns. 
  • B3. Writes compelling and engaging website content that will rank well in search engines and provide high value to the University’s target audiences. 
  • B4. Designs and publishes internal and external email communications as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree 
  • A minimum of three years of professional work experience involving communications, writing, marketing, journalism, or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to write compelling and engaging content 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 
  • Employs positive interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong partnerships and relationships across the university and external partners 
  • Has an ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds 
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work as a true collaborator and team player 
  • Desire to work with and mentor student employees and interns 
  • Experience with CMS 
  • Performs duties with a high degree of accuracy, independence and discretion, while keeping the Executive Director for University Marketing and Communications updated on issues that arise 
  • Serves as an active participant in complying with applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills 
  • Fluency in English, candidates who are also fluent in Spanish are encouraged to apply

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a salary commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications. The minimum starting salary for this position is $45,000 and the maximum starting salary is $50,000.
