The Digital Copywriter will support key company initiatives across Hardware & Home Improvement divisions through the creation of brand-relevant, item-level copy to support multiple brands and retailers. This position will take the lead on generating monthly social media calendars, writing engaging content for all brand social pages and moderating online conversations with our social communities. The Digital Copywriter will work closely with DCX team members, as well as Marketing when necessary, to ensure accuracy of content, editorial consistency and correct brand positioning. This position will assist in addressing all miscellaneous copywriting duties, including press releases, news articles, media requests and others as needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

(30%) Write, edit and maintain all e-commerce product copy to adhere with online data standards and brand guidelines in a deadline-driven environment

  • Create compelling copy that adheres to online data standards and brand guidelines 
  • Work on scheduled projects with the ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice to meet business needs 
  • Produce enhanced content compatible with our various customers’ content management software (CMS) 
  • Independently perform SEO research and use findings to write highly informative, purposeful product descriptions

(40%) Plan, write and edit all social media content to ensure editorial consistency and correct brand positioning

  • Develop engaging social media content that drives consumer interaction and conversion to our brand websites 
  • Conceptualize image needs and communicate effectively with Creative team members 
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously without losing focus

(10%) Moderate online conversations with our social media communities

  • Engage consumers on our social channels with lively, professional dialogue posted in a timely manner

(10%) Address miscellaneous Creative Services copywriting needs

  • Work closely with Marketing to provide content for promotional material, such as catalogs, internal communications pieces and press releases 
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to understand the needs of creative writing projects

(10%) Other

  • Work closely with the proofreading team to make sure all digital content is reviewed to meet internal legal and regulatory standards 
  • Stay current with industry writing, editorial trends and competitive landscape 
  • Stay informed about the work competitors are doing in the digital space and be aware of current and forthcoming trends

Education and Experience Profile:

  • Requires a BA/BS in Marketing Communications, Journalism or English 
  • At least 4-6 years copywriting experience in digital content, advertising, direct marketing, promotion or related field 
  • Strong working creative portfolio demonstrating a focus on digital strategy and execution 
  • Background in retail or consumer products environment a plus

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in SEO and SEM best practices related to keyword research 
  • High degree of attention to detail in a fast-paced team environment 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and content management systems 
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines; self-motivated with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills 
  • Ability to take constructive criticism and to seek out/act upon feedback
