Position Summary:

The Communications Director is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies for Martin Brower. Working with the Vice President of Communications, this position will lead the development, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive external and internal verbal, visual and written communication practices. Importantly, this person will serve as a senior communications strategist, team leader and advisor to senior leaders, ensuring our diverse employee base and core customers feel deeply connected to our company. The primary components of this role are outlined below.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Collaborating with members of the Martin Brower leadership teams and corporate functions (HR, Legal, IT, Finance, Operations, etc.) and enterprise communications leads at Reyes Holdings to develop and execute strategies to better connect our workforce and align employee messages to drive results against business objectives. 
  • Managing the external and internal communication processes for Martin Brower, including strategy and support. 
  • Acting as a strategic advisor to Martin Brower leadership regarding communications topics and issues, working directly with them to understand priorities and translate those into internal communications plans and messages that can be executed across the organization. 
  • Partnering with stakeholders on change management initiatives and leading communications support of business optimization efforts. 
  • Collaborating with Reyes Holdings communications counterparts to ensure alignment and consistency across the broader enterprise. 
  • Embedding messages related to strategy, objectives, vision, values and culture within internal communications – ensuring strategic content supports business efforts and will resonate with all employee audiences. 
  • Serving as editor-in-chief for company intranet, working with team to set content strategy, site governance and processes to ensure employees have access to the tools, resources and information they need. 
  • Overseeing and managing company’s online presence by owning the copy and graphic elements of external websites. 
  • Identifying and assessing effectives of existing communications vehicles; develop and implement solutions to improve reach and usage, including launching new vehicles as necessary. 
  • Measuring, monitoring, and responding to employee feedback, including engagement surveys and focus groups with key internal stakeholders. Develop a framework for measuring the quality and value of internal communications and make this visible to the organization. 
  • Planning and executing employee communications events (e.g., town halls, webcasts, etc.). 
  • Partnering with Human Resources and other corporate departments to coordinate and create branding campaigns such as Corporate Social Responsibility, Employment Branding, Company Culture, and other values-driven initiatives. 
  • Coordinating, drafting, editing, and publishing communications through newsletters, email, intranet, video and other media as appropriate. 
  • Ensuring consistent corporate image /company brand is communicated and maintained across all internal and external outlets. 
  • Overseeing direct reports and managing vendors. 
  • Managing annual communications editorial calendar. 
  • Managing the press release process, as needed. 
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • At least 8-10 years of communications experience and a bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field. 
  • 6 years managerial experience 
  • High energy and resourceful leader with the capability to quickly take control of responsibilities and establish himself/herself as a credible strategic business partner. This includes having the confidence to champion internal communications recommendations and actively counsel senior leadership. 
  • Proven effective leadership and management skills; ability to coach and develop in an ever-changing, matrixed scaling business environment. 
  • Strong business acumen and a great understanding of how to leverage internal communications to enhance business success. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with different levels within an organization and lead change initiatives; ability to negotiate with and persuade others, and ability to facilitate team meetings. 
  • Ability to think outside the box and bring creative ideas to the table. 
  • Strong conceptual flexibility with an ability to synthesize large amounts of data and input from a variety of stakeholders in order to select and influence/drive the best solution. 
  • Experience leading communications in times of change, including growth, integration and business transformation. 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner and develop trust and influence as a thought leader with a broad relationship base. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key business leaders and employees at all levels. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high quality results. 
  • Good listening skills; ability to understand issues and design appropriate, audience-specific solutions. 
  • Excellent project management skills, including writing, spelling, grammar, editing, design and content development skills; experience with electronic communications (intranet, video, social media). 
  • Travel requirement: 15% 
  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with SharePoint is preferred. 
  • Experience with content design.
