Position Overview:

Our Marketing and Communications team is seeking a Media Relations & Communications Director to develop clear and consistent communications to educate, engage, inform and inspire JourneyCare’s internal and external audiences. This role will focus on creating strategic content through developing an editorial brand journalism/content calendar to drive staff engagement, culture, and growth through use of multi-channel communication vehicles and publications. Under the direction of the Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications, you will proactively develop pitch strategies that secure thought-leadership media placements by positioning JourneyCare’s approved brand messages, patient stories, leadership, and advocacy with local, regional, and national media outlets and associations (e.g. AMA, ILHPCO, NPHCO) to support its vision and business objectives. You will also serve as the agency’s back-up media spokesperson and crisis communications lead.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing communications, journalism or related field 
  • Seven (7) plus years of communications experience in media relations, public relations, and social engagement platforms for internal and external audiences, journalism and/or integrated marketing communications

Preferred Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven media contacts and metrics driven/results-oriented placements 
  • Abreast and savvy of innovative media/social communication platforms 
  • Spokesperson and crisis management experience 
  • Previous direct leadership role, minimum 2 years, managing teams and proven ability to work with cross-functional teams 
  • Strong writing/verbal communications skills and presentation/media training skills 
  • Understanding of technology used within communications for connecting remote staff and multiple locations 
  • MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; 
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, Go To Meeting, Podcasts or other communications software
