Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

Part of the corporate communications team, our communications manager will be primarily internal communications-focused, including broad-based employee communications, executive communications and support of U.S. site communications, but would also support corporate reputation efforts including digital/social media, branding and corporate media. Operating in a fast-paced environment, our ideal candidate would be comfortable with variety, urgency and shifting priorities, and have extensive healthcare communications experience in an agency or in-house setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop broad-based employee communications. 
  • Create and execute culture initiatives. 
  • Support executive communications. 
  • Consult on U.S. site (IL, CA, NC, CO) communications. 
  • Manage SharePoint-based intranet site. 
  • Occasionally support corporate earned media efforts. 
  • Support digital/social media content and activities. 
  • Execute ad hoc special events. 
  • Work collaboratively with agency and internal partners. 
  • Independently identify and initiate process improvement areas. 
  • Maintain communication with all levels of management and employees, often dealing with confidential information. 
  • Perform special projects and/or other functions to support the business as assigned or proactively performed.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 – 10 years of communications experience, healthcare experience preferred. 
  • Bachelor’s degree at a minimum.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong PC skills including advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; SharePoint a plus. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to identify and shift priorities quickly. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team orientation. 
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and conflicting priorities. 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to proactively think ahead and aggressively prioritize and multitask, often switching gears quickly. 
  • Occasional travel.
