The Marketing and Brand Manager position is responsible for developing annual marketing and promotional strategies for the Wisconsin Historical Society as well as daily management of core marketing functions. This person is a key member of the Foundation’s communications, marketing and annual giving team and will ensure all marketing strategies fit within the larger, annual plans for positioning the Society to the public. The marketing team within this structure is responsible for upholding brand regulations, developing annual creative direction and graphic design, creating annual promotional strategy and marketing campaigns, all paid advertising, and implementing a strategic website user improvement plan. This role is directly responsible for developing annual marketing strategies, creating and maintaining advertising budgets, ensuring brand regulations are met in all design and usage, supervision of the marketing team, and management of the relationship with a third-party agency to plan and execute all paid advertising strategies. This person will work closely with Society staff to achieve brand awareness goals as we work to better serve the public.

The ideal candidate for this position will be creative, strategic, detail-oriented, and a highly driven, professional communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment. In the coming year, this role will be involved in a strategic review of the Society’s brand, promotional tactics, annual advertising budget, and digital marketing growth opportunities.

Core Duties: Strategic Planning and Management

  • Work with the marketing director, communications director, and annual giving manager to ensure all marketing plans are in-line with one, three, and ten-year goals for the Society.
  • Develop, implement,and execute strategic marketing plans for the Wisconsin Historical Society to attract potential customers, retain existing customers, grow earned and contributed revenue, and increase our digital presence.
  • Manage an annual marketing tactics budget to ensure proper spending at the end of each fiscal year.
  • Manage a marketing team of three individuals to perform within deadlines and achieve team goals that cover key areas of work including design, web, email, and content generation.
  • Manage a new relationship with a third-party agency to develop and execute the annual paid advertising strategy and implement new strategies to improve the Society’s digital marketing platform.

Core Duties: Daily Marketing Functions

  • Oversee content strategy plans.
  • Work with the team to run monthly content meetings to review upcoming content priorities for the group.
  • Own the Content Work Plan Excel document that ensures all content generators are pushing the correct content at the correcttime.
  • Project manage all creative design projects and tasks from start to finish including the receipt and processing of creative request forms from Society clients.
  • Review all design projects to ensure brand consistency and brandstandards.
  • Manage receipt of and delegate responsibilities related to multiple staff-wide submission forms including a creative request submission form, web edits submission form, and the event submissionform.
  • Work with an external vendor to set up and run the Google Ad Wordsprogram.
  • Maintain the Master Marketing Tracking Sheet that records and monitors performance of all marketing tactics.
  • Oversee the execution of all paid advertising including a variety of digital and traditional mediums.
  • Oversee the implementation of all owned advertising including Society web banners, ads, and in-house publication advertising.
  • Manage the Society’s email automation platform, Active Campaign, and provide training and access for new staff to ensure that they are using the platformcorrectly and that all messaging is on-brand.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in marketing, communications, or relatedrole 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Experience developing advertising plans that focus heavily on digital marketing (PPC, Google Ads,etc.)
  • Experience with project management and can manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to think strategically and translate vision into action plans
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud tools
  • Experience with email marketing tools
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS Experience working with multiple stakeholders to achievegoals Experience producing large publications (annual catalogs, mailers, calendars,etc.)

Starting salary: $55,000 - $61,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience. Compensation package includes market driven base salary plus annual incentive compensation plan based on achieving team goals. The position is eligible for the Wisconsin Historical Foundation’s benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance; competitive retirement plan including employer match and generous PTO policy.
