The Wauwatosa Historical Society (WHS) is a nonprofit, 501c(3) educational organization committed to researching the history of Wauwatosa and to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting objects and documents from its past. WHS develops and maintains community support by serving as a role model for historical preservation at the Little Red Store (LRS) in Wauwatosa, and at its headquarters, the Kneeland-Walker House and Victorian Gardens, located at 7406 Hillcrest Drive in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

The Membership and Financials Coordinator manages the membership database and financial data entry for the Wauwatosa Historical Society at the historic Kneeland-Walker House. S/he also supports the organization with correspondence, record-keeping and volunteer coordination, among other things.

Work Schedule: Part-time (12-15 hours) per week. 

Responsibilities:

Membership

  • Manage membership database 
  • Process memberships 
  • Track renewals and administer membership benefits 
  • Act as resource for membership inquiries 
  • Produce annual membership directory 

Finance

  • Manage data entry for financial deposits, donations and gifts, including memorials 
  • Generate financial reports 
  • Coordinate year-end gift program 

Administration

  • Prepare bulk mailings 
  • Schedule and track property rentals and payments 
  • Write and edit correspondence and edit supporting materials and documents 
  • Record and track donations to WHS Collections and Archives (non-financial) 
  • Assist with events and programs as needed 
  • Coordinate, supervise and track volunteers 
  • Manage office supply inventory and order supplies 
  • Answer phones, greet and assist visitors
  • Effective communication skills, including composing correspondence 
  • Strong software skills, including Quickbooks and Microsoft products 
  • Fondness for local history and familiarity with Wauwatosa community a plus 
  • Weekend and evening work occasionally required 
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 30 pounds 

Note: The Kneeland Walker House is a Historic Landmark building and is not wheelchair accessible.
