Job Description:

Execute the layout and functionality of all Milwaukee Art Museum web properties and related digital communications. As a member of the creative communications team, the individual will work closely with the creative technologist, marketing strategist and additional team members to plan, implement, and refine solutions for our website visitors and Museum staff using existing and emerging web technologies.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include ensuring ongoing operation of the Museum website, collaborating with internal clients to perform content and functionality updates, assisting with and developing workflows that utilize web-based tools such as form builders and content management systems, creating wireframes and mockups, and applying web best practices for user interfaces and markup including responsive design. The individual will be responsible for writing clean, semantic code—HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP and making the website a useful, functional tool for communications across the organization.

  • Work with internal clients and project managers to execute functionality, content, design, and communication concepts across all web-based platforms 
  • Convert layouts from a graphic designer into functional and responsive web interfaces and email templates 
  • Create high-fidelity mockups and wireframes for testing and communicating new features and pages 
  • Determine appropriate architecture, and other technical solutions, and make relevant recommendations to internal clients 
  • Have an understanding of modern content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal, as well as emerging technologies such as headless CMS and JAMstack 
  • Create responsive, accessible user interfaces by using standards-based HTML / CSS / PHP / JavaScript practices 
  • Assist in the creation and training on digital templates and workflows by using across the Museum for forms, email marketing, digital signage, social media, and web 
  • Assist with and perform day-to-day email marketing activities including email campaign set-up, scheduling, testing 
  • Create efficiencies through the use of automation and dynamic content in web and email marketing

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in the field, submission of online portfolio or examples of projects preferred. Degree in related field a plus 
  • Three years minimum experience and a strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript 
  • One year minimum experience with maintaining PHP based websites and content management systems 
  • Familiarity with using APIs to interface with other web platforms 
  • Self-learner with a passion for a deep understanding of web technologies 
  • Familiarity with using Adobe products (or equivalent tools) for mockups, wireframing, and for basic image export/manipulation 
  • Knowledge of browser compatibility across multiple platforms and devices 
  • Knowledge or experience with version control and package managers is a plus 
  • The ability to meet deadlines, work independently, troubleshoot, and take initiative as required 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from other departments
