Provides counsel to assigned business partners on marketing and communications strategy. This may include strategic communication planning, media plans, press releases and social media entries. Requires high-level skills to work on issues of diverse scope and complexity. Mentoring other team members may be a regular component of this position.

Principle Responsibilities:

Writing and Materials Production.

  • Creates messaging and materials for mid-to large-scale project-based assignments and regular, ongoing communication needs. This may include presentations, bylined articles, background documents and Q&A for executive visibility. 
  • Translates key business issues and priorities into messages that are understood by/resonate with audiences at all levels. 
  • Connects themes and uses relationship-oriented messaging/storytelling that contributes to a culture of transparency. 
  • Ensures company brand, graphic identity and writing style guide requirements are maintained in visual and written materials.

Media Relations & Crisis Management (external communications).

  • Develops and executes media relations communications plans and tactics. 
  • Identifies relevant, compelling and engaging content across the organization and maximizes appropriate use of content across all external communication channels. 
  • Prepares leaders for media, facilitate media interviews and follow-up. 
  • Creates targeted media lists, engage traditional and new media reporters to understand their story needs and to develop and execute pitches that secure positive media coverage. 
  • May serve as a back-up resource on the Disaster & Emergency Preparedness Council (DEPCO) and a Public Information Officer. 
  • Supports the external promotion of our brand by leveraging stories that increase engagement and brand awareness/loyalty.

Consulting.

  • Serves as a strategic partner to business unit/system office project teams to deliver effective marketing and communications that support business objectives and drive and/or maintain consumer growth and volumes as well as employee engagement.

Strategic planning.

  • Develops communication plans and strategies for assigned business units, functions, projects and/or campaigns. 
  • Creates and supports the development of plans and strategies for general campaigns and business unit needs. 
  • Proactively partners with appropriate communication vehicle owners to deploy the communications.

Processes and supports.

  • Oversees communication channels and processes, including public relations. 
  • Collects and analyzes media coverage, develop stories to promote growth strategies, secure leader speaking engagements and award opportunities. 
  • Contributes to processes that help enhance structures and process improvements in communications prioritization, measurement and deployment.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field 
  • 5 to 7 years with experience in internal/external communication and/or change management communications

  • Media relations and/or external communications
