The College includes the departments of Communication Studies, Digital Media and Performing Arts, Journalism and Media Studies, and Strategic Communication. A transformational $25 million gift from the Diederichs funded the renovation of historic Johnston Hall, which houses the College. This renewal furnished Johnston Hall with state-of-the-art laboratory and studio technology. Today, the Diederich gift helps support faculty development, travel, and research throughout the College. The Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 15, 2023 with a teaching and research specialization in strategic communication. We seek an engaged scholar/teacher who can work collaboratively across departments within the college and with other academic programs at the university.

  • Candidates should have a research and teaching background in advertising, corporate communication, or public relations.

  • We encourage all interested candidates to apply, yet we are particularly interested in candidates with a research and teaching focus that supports the college efforts in data analytics, social media, and user experience. 
  • Potential areas of interest include data visualization, visual storytelling, user experience design, and design for social change. 
  • The candidate will have the expectation of teaching courses across the advertising and public relations curriculum which may include emerging and social media, social media analytics and measurement, public relations research and measurement, and communication statistics, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. 
  • In addition to teaching, the candidate will be responsible for advising undergraduate and graduate students, serving on college and university committees, and establishing and maintaining a research agenda.
  • The candidate will have the expectation of teaching courses across the strategic communication curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Earned doctorate or a terminal degree. 
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and high quality research. 
  • The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in communication or closely related field with knowledge base in strategic communication. (ABD candidates will be considered with the expectation that Ph.D. will be completed by August 2023). 
  • Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate potential for engaged teaching excellence and high-quality research.
