The Associate Communication Director provides oversight and implementation of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s multi-channel communication strategy including content of the Catholic Herald newspaper, archdiocesan website, social media, video and print materials as well as media relations. Reporting to the Communication Director, the Associate Director collaborates with central office team members and manages communications efforts for archdiocesan programs and initiatives.

  • Coordinate and execute social media strategy, monitoring and analytics, building an engaged social media audience. 
  • Oversee content of the Catholic Herald newspaper. 
  • Provide website content management including collaboration with information systems, communication office team members and/or outside vendors to execute website strategies. 
  • Provide assistance, as needed, with other archdiocesan websites. 
  • Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members. 
  • Prepare and coordinate digital, video, audio and print content. 
  • Maintain brand integrity across all platforms.
  • Track engagement across various platforms and make data-driven decisions.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee provides a full-scope of employment benefits. The position is a full-time, salaried position working in-person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center. Occasional weekend and evening assignments and occasional travel throughout the archdiocese are involved.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline is required.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience in a communication field required, marketing or public relations or related experience required, including proven written and oral communication skills, project management, and knowledge of the public relations field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications strategy and technologies.
  • Experience managing digital communications content including social media campaigns and analytics, website content management and search engine analytics.
  • Experience with media relations and success with pitching stories and gaining coverage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including impeccable copywriting and copy editing abilities.
  • Able to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Experience within a non-profit organization is desired. 
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred. 
  • It is expected that the individual who is hired for this position will not speak on behalf of any other organization while a member of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee communications staff.
  • Benefits granted the first of the month following 30 days of employment, includes health, dental, vision, and flexible spending account, vacation. 
  • Enrollment in the pension is after one year of employment, another 5 years to be fully vested.
