Overview:

Associate Consultant, External Communications will support external communications functions that align with our PESO method (paid, earned, owned and social) media engagement strategy. This includes but is not limited to: earned and social content creation, earned media engagement, media research, community management, executive earned and social media support, drafting of communications (including press releases, key messages, talking points, etc.) and maintenance of content calendars. The incumbent will liaise with BCBSA creative services and facilitate a detailed review process. They will be adept at spotting social and earned media trends, adhering to BCBSA brand guidelines and skilled at writing in the brand’s distinct voice. S/he will interact with senior executives, so excellent writing and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Social Media:

  • Create content for BCBSA social media channels and executive social media
  • Identify relevant social media trends and opportunities

Earned media:

  • Draft earned media material
  • Support media coverage of key brand initiatives and priorities (e.g. HoA support)
  • Support media pitching and strategy execution

Community management & Research:

  • Respond to incoming community inquires and touchpoints
  • Execute social listening strategy through to maintain a pulse on the industry
  • Conduct media research to aid in understanding of the media landscape and the position of the BCBS brand

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • 2-3 year(s) of experience in development of social media content 
  • Knowledge of digital platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and/or other social media content management solutions 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines 
  • 4-year College Degree

Preferred Basic Qualifications:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in community management 
  • Experience working with senior leaders 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills 
  • Corporate communications experience ideal
