The Associate Director, Corporate Communications leads efforts to inspire and inform Crate and Barrel Holdings (CBH) associates on business objectives and strategic priorities through storytelling across a variety of forums (email, social, in-person, etc.). This leader develops and delivers high-impact culture-reinforcing communications that drive associate engagement and empowerment. This position leads and develops a team in delivering clear, engaging, relevant, high impact communication.

A day in the life of the Associate Director, Corporate Communications…

  • Act as a steward of the Crate and Barrel Holdings (CBH) brands, culture and engagement, through the creation and implementation of internal communications standards/practices; optimize access to information, simplifying what, how, when and where we share information; measure communications effectiveness and pivot as necessary 
  • Set internal communications strategies and roadmap in alignment with the company's strategic goals and business objectives, with a focus on engaging internal audiences and amplifying multichannel storytelling efforts 
  • Partner closely with the CEO and CHRO as an executive-level communicator for internal company-wide communications in support of the company vision to achieve overall strategic goals and reinforce our culture 
  • Develop and execute corporate social media strategy, ensuring social media presence that reinforces authentic brand content 
  • Contribute to a differentiated corporate employer brand; identify the brand attributes that reflect the company’s unique value proposition; deliver a clear understanding of our corporate story and strategy to current and prospective talent; spark advocacy by crafting campaigns and messages that inspire stakeholder sharing 
  • Deliver thought leadership around our approach to communications and activations including change management, values, DE&I, CSR and Philanthropy 
  • Support the planning and flawless execution of company events and moments of connection, including quarterly leadership meetings, town halls and board meetings 
  • Monitor and manage reputational risks surrounding critical issues; identify and prioritize issues most relevant to organizational success; contain and mitigate corporate crises 
  • Actively manage, mentor and coach team members; inspire and encourage continued growth and development

What you’ll bring to the table…

  • Expertise in effectively representing the voice of C-suite executives in internal communications and presentations 
  • Ability to build high-functioning relationships with key stakeholders (executive team, across brands, marketing, PR, HR) 
  • Ability to develop, pitch and execute communications strategies 
  • Expertise in delivering impactful communications that support culture, engagement and empowerment of associates 
  • Experience and comfort with data analysis and reporting, and ability to create a concise narrative from complex data 
  • Ability to conceptualize big ideas and translate them into actionable plans 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under tight deadlines 
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills; ability to manage complex projects on time, on budget and on goal

We'd love to hear from you if you have…

  • Ability to work 3 days/week from our Corporate Office in Northbrook, Illinois 
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Communications, including internal communications; experience within retail and a large company (5000+) is highly preferred 
  • 3+ years of experience leading others 
  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Experience advising C-suite executives on effective communications 
  • Experience planning and executing both small and large scale events
