Associate Director of Data Science:

The best data people want to work in a creative agency setting because of their belief that data science—in and of itself—is creative. The Associate Director of Data Science at Colle McVoy is curious about what insights and opportunities might lie hidden amongst the rows, columns and tables that are available. Other agency staff are just as curious about how those insights and opportunities might be used to help make our clients’ work stronger, smarter and more fun.

The Associate Director of Data Science spends a portion of their time (~20%) modeling those data and even engineering new data sets into the existing mix courtesy of owned, earned and paid media; and data mining from first- and third-party properties.

Most of the role, however, is focused upon data analysis, generation of insights and presentation of points-of-view and recommendations—often to non-technical audiences. Proactive problem-solving amounts to ~80% of the job description.

The Insights Team will behome for the Associate Director of Data Science at Colle McVoy, but the position will interface regularly with multiple disciplines including media, development, brand leadership and experience design. The position is assigned to a team with clients active in industries such as energy, agribusiness and outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities:

  • Past experience in web and business analytics, assessing user behaviors and media performance in ways that make agency and client side decision makers confident about the media, content and creative optimizations being recommended.
  • Developed skills that show how refined audience targeting, strategic messaging and creative implementations can be combines to help grow awareness of our clients’ brands and ultimately drive sales of their products and services.
  • Comfortable with, and thrives on, personal engagement – with internal agency teammates as well as clients and vendors.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in R, Python and Excel environments 
  • Experience in data collection, preparation, visualization and presentation - inclusive of complementary tools (e.g., AWS, SQL Server, Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau) 
  • Proven skillset tapping in to real-world, publicly available data sets needed to strengthen business models 
  • Readily able to scrape the Web, connect to APIs and query SQL databases to collect such data 
  • Knowledge of modeling algorithms appropriate for solving marketing challenges (e.g., clustering, neural networks, time series models) 
  • Flexible personality able to adapt to rapidly changing terms across multiple projects live at any given time 
  • Love of numbers, love of humans

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, economics, mathematics or business analytics 
  • Seven to ten years of comparable, professional experience surfacing opportunities out of quantitative and qualitative data.
