Associate Director of Marketing

Heartland Alliance seeks an experienced and mission-driven professional to join a dynamic and cross-functional team charged with increasing awareness of and diversifying revenue for Heartland Alliance—a Chicago-based, global anti-poverty and human rights organization. The Associate Director of Marketing will help advance the department’s goals by strengthening the organization’s presence through aligned, compelling, and effective marketing and branding efforts.

The Associate Director of Marketing plays a strategic and key role in increasing organizational brand alignment, collateral development, marketing effectiveness and measurement, process improvement, and digital marketing capacity across the organization. The position executes on and oversees projects independently, as well as facilitates collaborative initiatives across the organization. The Associate Director of Marketing reports to the Chief of Communications and Marketing and will supervise and mentor two staff members.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and implement digital and traditional marketing strategy and efforts to advance organizational goals. 
  • Develop new and enhance existing processes to strengthen project management, coordination, budgeting and effectiveness. 
  • Lead marketing and communications measurement to demonstrate impact; report on key metrics, analyze and interpret trends; and provide actionable insights based on available data to increase effectiveness of stakeholder marketing strategies and tactics. 
  • Leverage CRM (donor management system) to inform and enhance strategic marketing approaches. 
  • Identify and utilize audience segmentation to drive targeted marketing strategies that communicate impact and drive stakeholder engagement.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Stay current with industry trends and marketing best practices.
  • Contribute to overall marketing and communications strategy development for Heartland Alliance as a whole.
  • Serve as a key member of the development, communications and marketing department at fundraising events, especially signature Heartland Alliance functions. Events may require occasional work outside of standard business hours.
  • Lead projects ensuring attention to risk management, and changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or design 
  • Minimum 8-10 years relevant experience - relevant advanced degree desirable. 
  • Strong understanding of marketing optimization, email marketing, and data-driven decision-making 
  • Familiarity with Adobe products and graphic design, website development, video production and editing experience a plus 
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems - experience with Blackbaud - Raiser’s Edge NXT – a plus. 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, external creative and production vendor management a plus 
  • Experience planning and executing multiple, complex marketing programs including budget management
