Associate Editor, Digital

As part of the Taste of Home Content team, the associate editor, Digital, will be responsible for developing a wide variety of food and food lifestyle story ideas and assigning and editing content for the TOH digital channels. A cross-functional editor and writer, the associate editor understands how to turn search and social insights into engaging stories, blending confidence and creativity with the ability to be organized yet nimble and open to change. With strong time-management and organization skills, he or she is able to work through a high volume of stories efficiently, effectively and on deadline, enabling the Taste of Home Digital team to meet its ambitious daily, weekly and monthly production goals. 


  • Edits and proofreads stories by freelance writers and team members, according daily content goals. 
  • Writes and edits copy for editorial packages, such as digital articles, newsletters, social media posts and slideshows. 
  • Assists the senior editor in identifying new freelance food and lifestyle writers using appropriate team tools and platforms. 
  • Mentors freelance writers in the Taste of Home voice and style, offering regular feedback. Develops story ideas according to weekly goals. 
  • Participates in and contributes to omnichannel brainstorm sessions. 
  • Works closely with dynamic edit, analytics, art, photo, web, content management and Test Kitchen teams.
  • Tackles assignments with daily direction from senior and deputy editors.
  • Coordinates multiple projects simultaneously. Ensures all project deadlines and goals are met. Keeps a close watch on food and lifestyle trends and tracks the competition. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • College degree in English, journalism or related field. 
  • 4 to 5 years proven writing, editing and proofreading skills. 
  • Digital experience preferred. Basic knowledge of HTML/markup preferred. 
  • A keen familiarity with, and interest in, the food, recipes and food lifestyle space. 
  • Ability to openly collaborate, verbally communicate and accept constructive feedback. 
  • Ability to work autonomously, but also as part of an evolving, dynamic team. 
  • Comfortable interacting with staff at all levels. 
  • Working understanding of the digital landscape, including search engine optimization, social media channels and metrics. 
  • Experience working with a content database preferred. 
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects at one time, consistently meet deadlines and catch all the details. 
  • Ability to think creatively on his/her feet, set priorties and quickly change course as data informs. 
  • Ability to see his/her role in the larger part of the Taste of Home brand and work for the success of the team.
