OVERVIEW:

The Corporate Communications Associate Manager, Owned Channels, works in close collaboration with Corporate Communications colleagues, internal/external stakeholders and agency partners, to ensure the goals and objectives of our owned channels are reached. With an emphasis on cross-channel communications, this role will champion and execute creative storytelling, and bring forward best practices and emerging trends in content development, strategy, management, design and distribution.

Serving as editor-in-chief of General Mills’ corporate social media channels, corporate website, and internal and external newsletters (A Taste of General Mills and Champions Feed), this role partners with the larger Corporate Communications team in uncovering stories, developing a cross-channel editorial calendar and creating content.

The Associate Manager, Owned Channels, also leads our owned channel Employee Advocacy program and guides our executive positioning efforts on LinkedIn for General Mills’ senior leadership, including strategy for and management of our CEO’s profile.

This role reports to the manager of the Brand Storytelling team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Serve as a strategic and collaborative partner to the global Corporate Communications team and internal/external stakeholders and agency partners, driving creative storytelling across our owned channels 
  • Function as editor-in-chief across owned channels: work with teams to uncover storytelling opportunities; develop/create, assign and facilitate content across team; mentor other team members to guide and influence how content is developed; oversee and edit content to ensure alignment with corporate style and formats; coordinate with design resources to bring stories to life visually across channels; and deploy/distribute content or coordinate with other team members to do based on platform 
  • Lead LinkedIn executive positioning strategies – including management of CEO profile, content strategy and results reporting – collaborating closely with broader Corporate Communications team 
  • Lead and execute organic and paid corporate social media strategy, including development of monthly editorial calendar, and serve as resource across the global Corporate Communications team for best practices across channels and issues management 
  • Foster and evolve the organization’s Employee Advocacy program, identifying top stories across channels for employees to share with their networks to drive greater awareness and credibility for General Mills and its portfolio of brands 
  • Use data to measure the success of our owned channels, making recommendations on opportunities to Corporate Communications and teams across the company 
  • Partner with Social Media Engagement Team (SMET) to address high priority consumer engagements and/or issues 
  • Own relationship with social media management partner, Sprout Social

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • Creative and collaborative self-starter and problem solver with minimum 3-5 years of professional experience working in corporate communications or a PR agency 
  • Experience with both internal and external communications 
  • Ability to consistently deliver on tight deadlines while prioritizing and advancing several projects simultaneously and maintaining strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proven success in a variety of formats 
  • Strong communication skills and experience counseling business partners to achieve objectives 
  • Social media management experience and familiarity with social media management software (Sprout Social) 
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging 
  • Ability to successfully navigate a matrixed organization across functions, levels and geographies 
  • Experience managing paid social campaigns 
  • Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong multimedia (video/audio production and editing, photography, graphics) and research skills 
  • Comfortable using CMS to publish or share content (i.e. Sitecore) 
  • Familiar with email software (i.e. Poppulo)

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $90,100.00 - $135,300.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifictions, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
