The Associate Vice President, Philanthropy is responsible for driving the special, major, principal and planned giving efforts for the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital Foundation.

  • Lead all facets of special ($10k+), major ($25K+), principal ($1M+) and planned giving fundraising, including budget and strategy setting, as well as staff and program design, implementation, and assessment. 
  • Collaborate with Chief Development Officer, AVP of Operations and AVP of Engagement to promote a results-driven, collaborative work environment focused on strategic planning and process improvement within functional areas. 
  • Manage a partial portfolio of major and principal giving prospects as necessary, with an emphasis on building the principal gift pipeline. In some instances, serve as the secondary prospect manager to assist in managing key institutional donors. 
  • Supervise fundraising personnel with assigned responsibility for special, major and principal gifts, planned gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, and other personnel in fundraising. 
  • Review each gift officer’s priority prospect engagement activity, and help to adjust strategy and focus as needed. 
  • Establish and ensure success towards goals for the team, including monthly or quarterly metrics to track progress against goals, including revenue goals for special, major, principal and planned giving functions. 
  • Provide leadership and guidance for gift officers to implement best practices in fundraising, with an emphasis on collaboration and accountability. 
  • Collaborate with Prospect Management and Research as well as Database Information Services teams to guide prospect assignments and refine reports and tracking systems to ensure effective management of prospects for each gift officer. 
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer, institutional leaders and department chairs to identify, quantify and understand the institution’s philanthropic priorities and develop strategies necessary to guide clinicians, researchers and staff to enhance philanthropic support for the institution’s highest priorities. 
  • Guide his/her team in creative and effective processes to identify and cultivate new prospects, including the expansion of the grateful patient program.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success in managing multi-member gift officer teams 
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and securing six and seven-figure gifts. 
  • Demonstrated significant growth in fundraising revenue in roles with progressive responsibility. 
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communications skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage in a complex organization and plan strategically with high-level faculty, administrators and volunteers 
  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising concepts, techniques, and procedures. 
  • Preferred experience with campaigns. 
  • Preferred knowledge of Raisers Edge. 

Specifications:

  • Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education:

  • Bachelor’sDegree

Minimum Required Experience:

  • 10+ years in the Advancement field, with a preference for experience in the higher education or healthcare sectors, 

Preferred Experience:

  • Proven track record of closing five-, and six-figure gifts in a complex organization
