Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Audio/Visual Technician to join our Information Technology team. This position is responsible for providing an outstanding level of customer service and direct IT support to students, staff and faculty, and assistance to the AV Coordinator in managing student technicians, equipment and event support. The work is performed under direct supervision of the AV Coordinator. The primary duties of this individual are performed in the IT department office.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide professional level of support and service for all classroom, meeting space, and other MSOE venue A/V technology.
  • Oversee audio visual equipment: keeping inventory, operating, repairing, troubleshooting, programming, and testing
  • Work with staff, faculty and guest to meet a variety of needs and solve problems efficiently
  • Provide timely resolution to user reported incidents and requests for services
  • Deliver, set up, and take down audio and video equipment for concerts, conferences, family programing events, and staff events in meeting spaces and auditoriums, and provide technical support as required
  • Serve as Front of House Engineer and event technician, including all components of live sound reinforcement: EQ, house mix, monitor mix, sound check, and live performance
  • Climb ladders, use man lifts, use basic hand tools, and use basic power tools in repair and maintenance of AV equipment
  • Manage or assist with special AV projects as needed
  • Assist in training and supervising of Audio-Visual Technicians
  • Keep the AV facilities in a clean and operating order
  • Meet certain standards of performance and conduct as pertaining to the essential functions
  • Maintain consistent communication and logistical planning to the A/V Coordinator for events throughout the campus.
  • Communicate with student A/V Technicians regarding events, services, and equipment.
  • Thoroughly document end user requests, troubleshooting steps and resolutions in the ticketing system.
  • Provide on-going follow-up to end-users until resolution of issues.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position requires handling confidential information in an appropriate manner. Customer interactions must be handled with diplomacy and tact. Individual must be able to gauge the customer's technical ability and communicate with them in appropriate technical or non-technical language in a non-condescending manner.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of audio and visual technology, including sound reinforcement, videoconferencing technology, video display technology, and AV control systems
  • Must possess excellent guest service skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems under pressure and in stressful situations
  • Great attitude and time management awareness
  • Strong and Effective communication skills.
  • Great attention to details along with the ability to multitask and complete tasks
  • Experience working with a troubleshooting ticketing system
  • Team Working Skills and collaboration skills.
  • Completed education (2 year degree or equivalent) or 2 years of experience in audio visual field preferred

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as coding libraries, technical manuals, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form. Ability to create detailed technical documentation.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. 
  • Ability to apply complex problem-solving techniques to a variety of situations. 
  • Ability to prioritize based on business and technical needs

Physical Demands

  • Needs ability to use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data. 
  • Climb ladders, use man lifts, use basic hand tools, and use basic power tools in repair and maintenance of AV equipment 
  • Lifting and/or carrying of up to 75lbs, including up to 50lbs above head 
  • Pushing and pulling of carts when necessary. 
  • Loading/unloading trucks with gear when necessary
