Overall Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-going management of all brand talent, studio spaces, as well as providing education and growth opportunities for any direct reports
  • Through empowerment, actively encourage and develop behaviors related to team collaboration and exceptional internal and external customer service.
  • Actively participate in the Great Game of Business philosophies to ensure the success of the broadcast division
  • Constantly learn about emerging technologies while providing on-going feedback and advice to the General Manager that aligns with our strategic initiatives

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of on-air execution, including music or show choices, promotions, station imaging, community involvement  in order to achieve the highest engagement and ratings goals in the target demographics.
  • Recruit, schedule, coach and train through air checking and monitoring brand talent staff, including commercial production and possible discipline and termination of brand talent. Look for and reward a job well done through various forms of recognition.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Director to train and maintain brand talent digital expectations.
  • Monitor brand talent presence at live events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing/Promotions Director to develop targeted audience promotions (that may include assisting in the procurement of prizes when necessary) and help determine promotional levels when needed.
  • Develop and maintain a positive image for the radio stations, and all things related to the brands.
  • Collaborate with Business Manager to accurately budget, prepare talent fee reports and complete monthly billables in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a “customer comes first” environment with pro-active commitment to internal and external customer service.
  • Monitor competing mediums in order to gain a better perspective on how they are perceived by the audience and how their presentation could affect the market.
  • Maintain and strengthen community image through actively participating in community and charity events.
  • Schedule daily shifts for air talent, to include covering for  vacation, sick and other absences.
  • Meet with each staff member a minimum of once monthly for coaching and air checking to further develop their skills.
  • Contribute to and maintain a positive station image in all appropriate trade publications that encourage a forum of verbal and written communications with industry peers.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers, community members, and various industry representatives.
  • Understand and enforce FCC guidelines and rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Behavior:

Must have a “can do” attitude, be a self-starter, exhibit good interdepartmental skills, present a positive image with clients/customers, appropriate dress, communicate confidence in ability to perform job, flexibility, good at problem solving, etc. Maintain a valid driver’s license and adequate automobile insurance.

Skills:

Must possess good people skills including listening and communications.  Ability to organize and maintain workflow, able to interact and build consensus under stress, use of diplomacy skills, display strong problem-solving skills, troubleshooting, knowledgeable about  our music scheduling software (Music Master) and Audio Vault.

Knowledge:

Broadcast degree in communications or equivalent in experience.  Five years professional announcing experience.  An understanding of all types of radio formats and digital. Thorough understanding of FCC rules and regulations. Past supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
