Brand Marketing Writer/Content Creator

The Marketing Content Creator will work closely with the Chief External Affairs Officer on planning and be responsible for creation and execution of strategic content for Envision Unlimited programs, services, reputation, development and social enterprise initiatives to drive the annual marketing and brand awareness plan. The Creator will play a crucial role in building content that finds the nexus between what the organization wants to communicate (internal goals, core topics) and what the community seeks (what people are most interested in). He/She/They will create campaigns and collateral materials that translate complex community challenges and Envision solutions into relatable and compelling messages, stories, print and digital collateral to help connect stakeholders with the mission and organization impact. Additionally, the role will oversee content development and management of social media platforms, the website, newsletter, blog, media, annual report, and other channels in a manner that advances the reputation and thought leadership of the organization as well as supports fund raising. The overall marketing strategy is data-driven, relying on the external affairs team to track and analyze audience engagement info and ensure this is built into the project process.

This role is new to the External Affairs team and will be able to help shape and grow the department. This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial-minded individual who enjoys taking initiative and affecting meaningful change within an evolving nonprofit organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead creation of strategic, data-driven storytelling editorial content to convey the impact of the Envision Unlimited mission and connect with a range of stakeholders in support of the communications strategy relating to campaigns, website, social media, video, annual report, community initiatives, other digital channels 
  • Manage segmentation/targeting strategy to ensure sending “right content to the right people” through understanding the community; create constant listening and feedback loops, including regular surveying, active social media use, media and industry monitoring, qualitative/quantitative research that keeps a finger on the pulse to maintain and build relationships long-term 
  • Support development, implementation and evaluation of year-round integrated marketing strategies to inform and engage referral sources, partners, supporters, media, prospective clients and families and other stakeholders 
  • Provide input into the development and supporting strategies that create content for donors and volunteers, including engagement, communications, marketing of major individual gifts and targeted giving 
  • Develop and manage the editorial calendar ensuring good mix of original and repurposed content, and taking a multi-channel, integrated approach to sharing content with the community 
  • Promote and protect the Envision Unlimited brand and reputation through championing and monitoring adherence to style guidelines, proactive identification of opportunities and reactive response to issues 
  • Know and implement best practices for writing, designing, and delivering the content given the communications channel with ability to troubleshoot as needed and to track performance indicators/metrics for the channel 
  • Coordinate with marketing team to work directly with program staff to collect, consolidate, and distribute stories for social media, newsletter, web-based initiatives 
  • Familiarity with external communications software and databases to support External Affairs team 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position reports to: Chief External Affairs Officer


The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years experience with a brand awareness focus and creating digital and print content including social media, managing websites, program materials, annual reports, and newsletters as well as possess the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to grow the Envision Unlimited brand. This position requires both big picture thinking and hands-on work, excellent written, oral, and digital communication skills, exemplary proficiency in time and project management, and a dedication to advancing Envision’ s mission of ensuring choice, independence, and inclusion for people with intellectual, development and psychiatric disabilities.

Reporting Relationships:

The Brand Marketing Content Creator reports to the Chief External Affairs Officer and collaborates with the Marketing Communication Manager and the External Affairs Coordinator. The Manager will also work closely and frequently interact with Development Team including the SVP of Donor Engagement, Special Events Manager, an external video producer, graphic designer and other outside service vendors.

Key Qualifications:

  • At least 5-7 years of work experience in the fields of marketing, communications, public relations and/or similar areas, non-profit preferred 
  • Deep knowledge and experience in brand voice, messaging, copywriting, and marketing techniques and trends with a variety of writing samples 
  • Excellent creative, persuasive and strategic writing, marketing and communications, and interpersonal and team-building skills 
  • Ability to translate data and other information into actionable messages that resonate with specific targeted audiences 
  • Track record of measurable content development for a variety of channels, and scaling campaigns (fund raising related preferred) and increasing brand awareness 
  • Fluent with digital communications, social media, graphic design and marketing channel metrics 
  • Hands-on experience with marketing tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Constant Contact, WordPress, Drupal for managing websites; Canva, Abode, and other graphic design tools 
  • Knowledge of web analytics and SEO 
  • Self-starter with strong prioritization skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to assess and recommend tactics and programs to reach business objectives and strategies 
  • Excellence in project management with multiple projects simultaneously, attention to detail, and overall organization
