HGA is an award-winning architecture, engineering and planning firm with an excellent opportunity in our Milwaukee office for an experienced Business Developer for our Arts, Community & Education (ACE) and Public I Corporate Market Sectors. We are looking for a person who is passionate, innovative and seeking to be at the top of their game. This role reports to the ACE and Public I Corporate Practice Group Leaders and focuses on assisting with strategic planning, identifying target clients, building a strong network, and positioning the firm to win impactful, enduring work.

A person who can use their relationship expertise to deepen our client engagement strategy, who wants to grow a career with us. Someone who will push us to give them new opportunities for advancement, additional responsibilities with learning and development along the way.

Most of your time will be spent:

  • Working with Practice Group Leader and Principals to develop a list of potential targeted clients and project opportunities that support the market-driven strategy of the Market Sectors. 
  • Building and maintaining relationships through a consultative and solutions-based approach with decision makers at the organizations identified as targeted clients. 
  • Researching leads and make cold or warm calls to potential clients, evaluating and targeting prospects based on evaluation criteria. 
  • Developing and maintaining strong business network contacts to keep abreast of industry, client and competitor activity as well as identify strong project partners. 
  • Have a deep understanding of current business trends (across sectors) within your geographic region. 
  • Possessing a deep understanding of clients, their business and their needs to help our firm preposition through strong relationships. 
  • Meeting with Principals on a regular basis to strategize, track and inform collaborative efforts in client contact activities and prepositioning. 
  • Be a trusted partner with Principals to inform pursuit and interview strategy as part of “go/no-go” decisions. 
  • Assisting the Practice Group Leaders in budgeting and monitoring the overall marketing budget. 
  • Work with marketing department to report KPIs. 
  • Collaborating with marketing team to develop marketing collateral for client engagement.

There will also be times you will:

  • Collaborate with other offices and market sectors 
  • Identify and represent HGA at key industry associations and events and coordinate participation of other key HGA personnel, plus follow-up on requests. 
  • Work closely with marketing team to address communication strategy and media plan. 
  • Coach and mentor project teams on business development strategy and skills. 
  • Update CRM data (in Deltek Vision) database on a timely basis and build reports. 
  • Perform other secondary duties and responsibilities as required.

The Business Developer we are looking for will have:

  • Experience in both ACE & Public Corporate Market Sectors preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in sales or business development, with the ability to strengthen and further deepen our existing client relationships, required. 
  • Prior experience with corporate manufacturing, research & development clients, preferred 
  • Experience in a design-related field preferred. 
  • An interest to work with a dynamic team. 
  • Be self-motivated and driven to achieve practice group goals for business development 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that are adaptive to a wide range of personalities. 
  • BS/BA in Marketing, Communications, Architecture, Engineering or related field required. 
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Skills in Deltek Vision and/or other CRM/real estate software, is helpful. If not proficient, has a strong acumen to learn new technologies and software. 
  • This position requires frequent early morning, evening and some weekend event attendance outside of normal business hours. 
  • This position may require frequent air and over-the-road travel. 
  • Skills with Adobe Creative Suite or other publisher-type software is helpful.
