At Hoerr Schaudt, the Business Development (BD) Manager reports to the partner responsible for overseeing the firm’s marketing and business development efforts. Candidates should come from a design background (not necessarily landscape architecture) and have a proven track record of building industry relationships, networking, and attending industry events.

The BD Manager is responsible for identifying and aggregating BD opportunities and working closely with the firm’s partners and principals to assign and track their BD tasks. This role will also own the firm’s networking and schedule capabilities presentations and lunch meetings as needed.

In this role you will:

  • Work with partners and principals to identify project opportunities, strengthen current business ties and client relationships, and formulate business development strategies to expand Hoerr Schaudt’s presence in the commercial and residential market sectors. 
  • Develop project pursuit strategies. 
  • Position Hoerr Schaudt for projects before Requests for Proposals are issued. Actively engage in proposal strategy development and may assist in writing proposal sections and preparing qualification packages. 
  • Facilitate relationship-building activities and assist with the development of key client relationship management skillsets for partners and principals. 
  • Establish relationships with key market influencers such as city managers, developers, program managers, city officials, economic development staff, etc. 
  • Represent Hoerr Schaudt in a manner consistent with our core values and brand identity.
  • Actively engage in several professional and civic organizations, often in a leadership role.
  • Perform ongoing research of industry/trade organizations and make recommendations on the value of memberships/sponsorships. 
  • Track competitor activity by monitoring websites, collateral presentations, trade journals and design trends. 
  • Update and maintain lead tracking databases with relevant information on targeted clients, contacts and opportunities. 
  • Conduct project debriefs and client satisfaction surveys.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, public relations, communication, architecture, design, or related field 
  • 3-7 years experience performing BD for a Design or A/E/C (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) firm 
  • Be personable and outgoing 
  • A history of building relationships within the design community 
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail 
  • Energetic attitude and ability to work well within a team across multiple offices
