The Role

AHIMA is seeking a transformative Chief Marketing Officer who can shape the marketing strategy, build a best-in-class function, and drive growth. They will be responsible for enhancing the brand, engaging new and existing members and customers, developing and executing an audience-centric strategy, expanding the digital-first strategy, and leading and structuring a high-performing team.

The new Chief Marketing Officer will report to the CEO, Wylecia Wiggs Harris and lead a total team of 21 people in the combined areas of social media, media relations, communications, meetings and events, marketing operations, and product management. Direct reports include Vice President, Product Management, Director, Brand Communications, Director Marketing Operations, and Director, Meetings.

Due to the entrepreneurial nature of this role, this individual will need to enjoy rolling up their sleeves and being outcomes oriented. This position will also require a high level of agility, flexibility, and adaptability.

The location of this role is flexible.

Candidate Profile

The new AHIMA Chief Marketing Officer will ideally be a sitting Chief Marketing Officer with a blend of health information technology and Association experience. Given the nature of the AHIMA business, an understanding of advocacy or some level of experience in non-profit organizations is key for this role. They will ideally combine best-in-class B2B2C marketing, where they will have developed an entrepreneurial and “start-up mentality”. Experience in growth and transformation environments or global businesses will be a plus.

This person will bring brand strategy/positioning, digital marketing, and PR/communications experience from either health tech organizations, healthcare associations, healthcare payers or providers, or data information services organizations. Membership marketing experience is not a requirement, but it will be important that they have had some exposure to membership businesses.

This leader will be known to balance an outcome and process focus with a history of driving marketing and communication that leads to tangible results. They will continuously anticipate marketing needs and have strategies in place to meet the needs of a growing, agile business. Importantly, this leader will always be innovating and testing new ways to do things. They will be a strong leader with great learning agility, a team builder, and developer of talent who is known for outstanding collaboration, effectively working across the organization, and results orientation.
