Milwaukee College Prep was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the spring of 1997 as a gift to the Milwaukee community by Micky and Ron Sadoff and Junior Bridgeman. Mr. Robert Rauh was the founding principal and is now the Chief Education Officer for all four campuses.

Job Summary:

The Chief External Relations Officer (CXO) will join MCP during an exciting phase of organizational transition. This senior leadership role will oversee marketing and communications, advancement, events, board relations and partnerships, ensuring that we create and maintain relationships with stakeholders, communicate effectively with internal and external partners, garner resources in pursuit of our mission and steward our brand in a way that honors and celebrates the experiences of our students, families, staff, and community.

Essential Functions:

Development: Develop and implement initiatives to meet revenue goals, cultivate new prospects, and increase overall funding

  • Working with the CEO and Board of Directors to raise $2 million annually 
  • Managing future capital campaigns as needed 
  • Oversee and grow fund development that includes annual giving campaigns, fund raising events, friend raising events, grant writing and research 
  • Participate in solicitations and strengthen relationships a portfolio of major donors.

Marketing and Communications: Elevate the stories of scholars, families, staff to further our mission and support development, enrollment, talent recruitment and overall brand awareness

  • Successfully implementing strategic communications, messaging, and marketing materials to differentiated and diverse audiences 
  • Creating Internal communications strategy to promote a unified brand 
  • Working with team to create a cohesive social media presence and website design 
  • Serving as ambassador and spokesperson for MCP; articulate our mission to external constituents, partner organizations and potential funders

Board Relations: Assist the Board in supporting the mission of MCP

  • Staffing the Board’s Nominating Committee to develop and manage a diverse and strategic pool of prospective Board members 
  • Working with Board to introduce donor prospects to the schools 
  • Working with Board to prepare and implement the annual campaigns

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep passion for educational equity for all children, and extensive executive leadership and relationship building skills. Specifically, the candidate will have a history of:

  • Leading strategic communications 
  • Effective storytelling 
  • Creating an integrated marketing, communications, and fundraising vision 
  • Managing staff toward aligned outcomes 
  • Collaborating with diverse groups to achieve ambitious results 
  • Relevant college degree 
  • 8+ years of senior-level development, external affairs, marketing and/or communications leadership with a strong track record of success 
  • Leadership experience in fundraising or transferable experience 
  • Experience working in and sharing affirming stories of Black and Brown communities

Highly preferred:

  • Familiarity with Milwaukee philanthropic community 
  • Prior experience in Board management
