Children’s Wisconsin is seeking hard-working and enthusiastic undergraduate students to fill two paid Communication Intern positions.

These roles support the full scope of our work. This includes communication to our employees, physicians and other providers as well as messaging to external audiences. Strong writing skills are a must for these positions that involve a wide variety of storytelling, including corporate messaging, media relations and social media. Other responsibilities include pulling data and generating reports to track and improve the effectiveness of our communications. Our interns also have the opportunity to support special events, video projects and more.

We take pride in providing meaningful work experiences where these teammates can strengthen their skills, expand their exposure to multiple facets of health care communications and develop a strong portfolio to jumpstart their professional careers. Successful candidates will have prior work experience, including internships or other demonstrated application of communication skills to address organizational needs.

These positions are full-time during the summer and part-time once the academic year begins (hours based on individual schedules). These are temporary roles that are not eligible for benefits. In-person work is required with some opportunity for remote work.

  • Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect our values and support our mission and vision. 
  • Writes stories and copy for digital and print communications, including internal newsletters, intranet and public website pages, news releases and social media channels. 
  • Conducts related research and interviews. 
  • Formats internal electronic newsletters and posts content to the intranet, public website, social media and other digital channels. 
  • Tracks the effectiveness of internal and external communications, including assisting with database and analytics management and generating reports. 
  • Supports internal and external events, including leadership meetings and news conferences. 
  • Assists with development of communication plans and project management for a variety of projects.
  • Sophomore or junior year undergraduate student enrolled in communication, marketing, journalism, public relations or related area of study at an accredited college or university. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Analytical skills necessary to effectively work through assigned tasks. 
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
