The communication manager will lead a comprehensive media relations strategy for the District; oversee video production, web, and social media marketing and engagement and collaborate with the Chief of Communication and Community Engagement on all District marketing and both internal and external communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with Chief of Communication and Community Engagement to develop and implement a strategic District marketing and communication plan. 
  • Supervise communication department specialist(s). 
  • Oversee production of District promotional videos including concept, scripting, and production. 
  • Manage proactive media relations strategy as well as day-to-day media relations including during crises. 
  • Oversee planning, coordination, and production of District and community events and meetings, such as Encore! Awards and Back-to-School Kick-Off, etc. 
  • Coordinate initiatives to receive feedback from various publics through surveys, focus groups, forums, and other appropriate methods. 
  • Manage development and production of various District publications including calendars, schedules, newsletters, etc. 
  • Oversee design and production of District marketing materials. 
  • Oversee implementation of strategic District social media strategy. 
  • Oversee the management and design of all District and school websites. 
  • Provide strategic marketing and communication leadership to District and school leadership. 
  • Write and edit content for newsletters, web, press releases, promotional materials, brochures, annual reports, etc. 
  • Provide exemplary customer service to all individuals who inquire about the District through the communication office. 
  • Collaborate with Chief of Communication and Community Engagement in leading professional development for District staff in areas such as customer service and marketing. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Communication and the Superintendent of Schools.

Formal Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, public relations, or related field. Master’s degree or APR preferred.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of communication, marketing, or public relations experience.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Work within the departmental budget.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of strategies for developing effective and strategic communication plans for diverse audiences. 
  • Superior written and oral communication skills. 
  • Training in computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Desktop publishing (Adobe Suite). 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic communication leadership and support organizational leaders. 
  • Proven problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to oversee the production of high-quality communication and marketing materials, including print and video. Ability to shoot and edit video preferred. 
  • Exemplary customer service skills. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information. 
  • Abilility to multi-task and complete work accurately under deadline. 
  • Knowledge of computer software programs and a demonstrated ability to learn new programs as required. 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing crisis communications. 
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the multiple demands of a busy office. 
  • Professional attire and etiquette.
