Purpose of Position:

The Communications & Development Intern will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities and overall goals of the Advancement team which includes communications, outreach, and fundraising, as well as supporting the planning of Rise’s fall gala and other special events. Projects and duties can be customized based on intern’s interests and learning objectives.

Projects and Duties:

  • Develop awareness, topical, informational, fundraising, and marketing content to support with communications and fundraising efforts, this includes social media and email 
  • Outreach by mail, email, and phone to engage local businesses to participate in third-party fundraising efforts 
  • Develop and maintain research lists for regular fundraising outreach and solicitations 
  • Solicit in-kind donations and gala auction prizes through letters, phone, and email 
  • Provide general office support as needed including filing, donor data entry, and mailings 
  • Support the communications and interviewing of staff and people Rise serves via email, by phone and in person to create compelling stories for internal updates, fundraising direct mail, and our quarterly news magazine, The Rise Reporter 
  • Prepare internal communications to recognize, inform and address Rise team members 
  • Monitor volunteer mailbox, passing along opportunities and inquiries, and assist with volunteer database entries 
  • Assist in the creation of fact sheets, program summaries, FAQs, media correspondence and other informational communications pieces 
  • Support special projects for Advancement Team as needed

Requirements:

  • Passion and aptitude for working in communications, development, non-profit management, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, social media, and internet applications 
  • Must have reliable access to transportation regularly to Rise’s Administrative Office in Spring Lake Park, MN and occasionally to various Rise and partner locations throughout the Twin Cities metro and rural MN or western WI. 
  • Comfortable working both remotely and occasionally in office 
  • Non-local applicants and those who are interested in working fully remotely will be considered 
  • Strong written, oral communications, and interpersonal skills needed 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with many different projects happening simultaneously 
  • Compliance with DHS background check and fingerprinting as currently required 
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and detail-oriented personality with excellent time management skills 
  • Must have personal internet access

Time Commitment:

  • Internship can begin anytime and should last at least three-four months. 
  • Work will be divided between communications and development, based on need. 
  • 15-20 hours per week
