Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Entrepreneurship and innovation (E&I), the position of Community and Engagement Specialist will develop effective communication strategies using human centered design to manage the department’s communication and outreach across and beyond campus. This role will also work to grow connections and deep collaborationswith alumni entrepreneurs globally and the local Twin Cities entrepreneurial communityto build mutually beneficial, multifaceted relationships.

This role will work 35 hours a week and be off the month of August and from mid December to mid January (.75 FTE).

Responsibilities:

Communication & Engagement:

  • In collaboration with the Director, develops and implements strategic marketing plans to more fully engage all parts of campus in the work of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. 
  • Determines the best communication methods and leverages existing channels to promote engagement and opportunities online and in print. 
  • Designs and creates content and promotional materials for social media, flyers, announcements, quarterly newsletter, alumni communications, website, reports, etc.

Outreach:

  • Serves as departmental liaison with alumni entrepreneurs to create an engagement plan and lead projects to increase relationships and involvement. 
  • As a representative of Macalester E&I, builds engagement and connection with Twin Cities entrepreneurs. 
  • Assists in connecting students to E&I tohigh-impact opportunities and experienceswith local entrepreneurs and alumni entrepreneurs around the globe.

Administrative:

  • Serves as liaison with alumni and external guests in all E&I programming and events, including Summer Showcase, Macathon, mentors and guest speakers across program and classes 
  • Creates and manages systems to track alumni and community engagement. Utilizes data to evaluate communication and outreach effectiveness. 
  • Supports the Program Manager’s work with MacNest to include student application, selection, onboarding and matching with internship sites. Recruits, onboards and supports local founders and internship site supervisors for the MacNest program. Leads coordination of MacNest Matching Night Event. 
  • Provides logistical support for visiting Instructors. 
  • Collaborates with the Director to support new initiatives, grant writing, annual donor reporting and fundraising efforts. 
  • As part of the E&I team, this role will adapt during peak times to support the Macathon event, the Idea Lab and programming needs.
  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • 3 to 5 years of marketing communications experience. 
  • Experience in entrepreneurship mindset and methodologies, systems thinking, innovative problems solving or human centered approaches preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications with experience in storytelling. 
  • Ability to break down marketing information and look through date to find patterns and trends, brainstorm new ideas and make decisions on what solutions to implement. 
  • Excellent organization skills around managing multiple projects, workloads, competing priorities, working in ambiguity and still meeting deadlines. 
  • Experience with digital and print marketing, graphic design, content marketing and social media. 
  • Experience with Google suite, design software, database, Slack, Wordpress, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin.

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is $27-$29, depending on experience.
