Founded in 1905 as Engineers & Scientists of Milwaukee and housed at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, STEM Forward is 501c3 non-profit organization.

Communications & Program Manager

Part-Time: September – May: 32 hours weekly (average) / June – August: 20-22 hours weekly (average)

General Functions:

The Communications & Program Manager is responsible for communications, social media, event coordination, program implementation and database management activities.

POSITION ROLES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Manage communications to enhance STEM Forward’s role as a regional STEM connector and information resource to all constituents (schools, employers, community members, etc).
  • Serve as the organization's primary writer for communications activities 
  • Lead monthly electronic newsletter effort including research, writing and distribution 
  • Lead website and social media content management and distribution efforts
  • Directly manage the technology associated with the website and social media 
  • Serve as the Media Relations contact (Digital, Broadcast TV, Radio, Print outlets) 
  • Network in the corporate and K-12 STEM community for resources / partnership 

Events:

  • Lead coordination of the Annual Golf Outing with the Golf Committeeo 
  • Lead coordination of the Annual Engineers Week Banquet and associated awards 
  • Assist in coordination, production and administration for the sySTEMnow Conference
  • Coordinate the Day of STEM program with schools and employer volunteer providers.
  • Promote program opportunities and recruit volunteers from employers and technical societies 
  • Provide STEM program information and assistance to constituents proactively and in response to specific requests 
  • Represent and promote STEM Forward programs at area school and community events
  • Oversee high school scholarship promotion and selection process. 

Administrative / General:

  • Manage the registration process and RSVP’s for select organizational meetings and events
  • Maintain and grow databases of newsletter recipients, supporters and volunteers 
  • Record and compile meeting minutes for Board and select Committee meetings 
  • Arrange for Board / Committee meetings including reservations, scheduling and set-up

Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Broad base of computer skills including direct website and Social Media platform managment
  • Well organized with demonstrated project management experience 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people including school administrators, employers, teachers, volunteers, students and other community members 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Interest in STEM and alignment with STEM Forward’s mission. 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the community, K-12 education and industry in SE Wisconsin
  • $18 -23 Hourly
  • PTO that accrues at the rate of 3 weeks per year
