Overview:

The communications and volunteer manager will lead Rise’s external communications efforts in the areas of public relations, program marketing, and program marketing. This position also supports the communications and marketing components of Rise’s fundraising strategy and special events. This person will also run Rise’s volunteer program – recruiting and managing volunteers for programs, administrative tasks and special events.

Responsibilities:

Spearhead Rise’s program marketing efforts to increase program referrals and position Rise as an industry (50%)

  • Proactively engage with program and administration staff to develop opportunities for engagement with external audiences. 
  • Develop presentations and marketing materials (including print, digital, photography, and videography) to be used across the organization to promote Rise’s programming to referral sources, funders, and other stakeholders. 
  • Prepare, coordinate, and disseminate the Rise Reporter quarterly magazine in both print and digital formats. This involves writing or coordinating the writing of stories, doing the layout, and coordinating with the printing and mailing vendor. 
  • Manage and maintain Rise’s website, rise.org, to ensure that all content is current, accurate, and that the site is well utilized by Rise’s audiences. This includes regular reporting on site analytics, coordination with external vendors and continued attention to search engine optimization (SEO). 
  • Pitch stories to state and local media outlets. This includes the preparation and distribution of press releases and customized pitches, communications, and follow-up. The expectation is to pitch at least one story per month. 
  • Contribute content for Rise’s social media channels and collaborate with other members of the team on social media strategy and positioning. 
  • Prepare email newsletters and stories and distribute based on Rise’s digital marketing strategies and work in collaboration with other members of the team on email marketing content.

Support Rise’s communication and marketing efforts for development, special events, internal communications, and special (30%)

  • Write talking points and scripts for Rise external and internal events, both large and small. 
  • Coordinate, prepare, and finalize all marketing materials and tasks for special events including event programs, videos, photography, etc. Act as the point person for external vendors for these materials. 
  • Manage Rise’s intranet website, Risenet, Microsoft Teams’ organization-wide channels and ensure that accurate and timely information is posted. Continuously improve Rise’s internal communication efforts by exploring new technology and best practices. 
  • Support the organization’s crisis communications plan and change management efforts through timely and accurate internal and external communications and media relations. 
  • Develop communication and marketing materials that support special projects and events such as Rise’s 50th Anniversary and upcoming Capital Campaign. 
  • Support Rise’s government affairs efforts with timely communications support and website management.

Manage Rise’s volunteers (20%)

  • Respond to requests from prospective volunteers 
  • Collaborate with program managers to develop volunteer opportunities in their programs.
  • Recruit volunteers to fill open positions and for special events. 
  • Manage the volunteer database and track volunteer hours. 
  • Provide support to Rise business partners interested in engaging with our volunteer program and develop new partnerships. 
  • Directly supervise interns and volunteers for the advancement department

Required Education, Experience, and other Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience with managing external vendors on a variety of projects.

Excellent writing skills are required, writing samples will be requested prior to interviews.

Ability to travel to all Rise locations and other community sites, sometimes with little advance notice.

At least four years of experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, development, or public relations is required.

Expertise with the following software / technology:

  • Microsoft software - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive 
  • Adobe Creative Suite - including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. 
  • Email marketing tools (Constant Contact preferred) and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram). 
  • Website management tools and content management systems including WordPress, Google Analytics, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and Google AdWords. 
  • Canva and other similar tools. 
  • Experience with CRM databases, experience in Volgistics for volunteer management is preferred.

  • Salary range: $57,000 - $72,000 DOQ
