Together with our network partners, we serve nearly half a million food-insecure people across 35 counties in eastern Wisconsin each year.

JOB PURPOSE:

The role of the Communications Coordinator at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is all about telling our story and positioning our organization as the expert in hunger-relief utilizing multiple mediums. This position plays a vital part in making sure our messaging looks and sounds right, whether it’s in the media, print collateral, online content, or captivating video. You’ll be charged with creating eye-catching designs, producing engaging videos for social, working directly with members of the media, and ensuring our brand is always consistent. This job is at the heart of making sure Wisconsinites know who we are, what we do, and why we matter.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The steps required to define the primary duties and responsibilities of the job are as follows:

  • Designs all flyers, sponsorship collateral, print and digital advertising, presentation decks, and social media/web content with extreme attention to detail for consistent branding and messaging. 
  • Proactively develops, produces, and edits video content for use across all channels. 
  • Assists with managing all areas of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s website. 
  • Assists in the creation, fact-checking, and distribution of press releases and media advisories. 
  • Pitches stories to Milwaukee media about the need in our communities, our work, advocacy, and impact. 
  • Tracks pitches sent, responds to incoming media queries, and reports out on earned media. 
  • Researches and writes blogs, articles, and external email communications. 
  • Plans and executes Milwaukee media events to introduce members of the press to the food bank. 
  • Creates monthly talking points related to campaigns and initiatives for internal and external staff use. 
  • Maintains brand asset library and posting of press releases and relevant media mentions on website. 
  • Coordinates all third-party videography and photography needs. 
  • Acts as organization spokesperson when necessary. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to understand and support FAEW’s mission, vision, and effective actions to end food insecurity and its causes. 
  • Respect for the people FAEW serves and commitment to learn the causes of their food insecurity and need. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience, preferred 
  • Proficiency in graphic design, specifically with using Canva (required). 
  • Experience in shooting video, conducting interviews, and video editing. 
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proven track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • General knowledge of social media platforms, WordPress websites, and email communication. 
  • Must be able to develop networks within the local and national media community. 
  • Ability to speak and present in front of individuals, groups, or to media. 
  • Working knowledge of in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends for FAEW events. 
  • Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance and transportation to support work activities.
