The Communications Coordinator supports our strategic communications and public relations programs by assisting our 7-person team with project management, writing, editing and other critical duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the strategic communications and media relations programs aligned with the association’s goals. 
  • Accepts project requests, runs project dashboards and daily huddles. 
  • Maintains press contact database and distributes press releases. 
  • Assists with Building Safety Month campaign including managing proclamations, ordering supplies, collecting photos. 
  • Keeps events calendar up-to-date. 
  • Drafts and distributes monthly talking points to members. 
  • Interacts with external contacts, staff, and members at all levels on a regular basis. 
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external contacts to engage them and support effective communication inside and outside of the organization. 
  • Writes and coordinates content for internal and external communications, including press releases, talking points, op-eds, newsletters, and other collateral. 
  • Assists with staff newsletter, news roundup, and employee engagement campaigns. 
  • Contributes to the annual conference scripts, including writing, editing, and coordinating practice sessions. 
  • Updates the employee directory, media kit and annual prospectus. 
  • Stays up to date on trends and latest developments in communications, public relations, and new media. 
  • Monitors and responds to communications inbox messages. 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience in public relations, media relations, social media and corporate and/or nonprofit communications. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Marketing or related field. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and hit deadlines; rescope projects if necessary. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow through on what you promise. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required; working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and WordPress preferred. 
  • This position requires up to 10% travel.
