Are you a talented writer and skilled communicator looking for an opportunity to join a mission-driven organization committed to transforming lives and eliminating systemic barriers? The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired (WCBVI or “the Council”) is currently seeking a communications coordinator to play a key role on its communications team. Working closely with the communications director, the person in this position will play a key role in telling the Council’s story to its various audiences, promoting our mission, vision, values and services while maintaining the integrity of our brand.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Writing and/or editing content for publications, including print and electronic newsletters, social media, annual reports, event collateral, promotional materials and other content as needed. 
  • Interviewing internal and external content experts and clients to obtain information for publications. 
  • Designing and preparing e-newsletters for publication using an email distribution system. 
  • Updating websites using a content management system. 
  • Contributing to the design of print publications. 
  • Contributing to the production of educational and promotional videos. 
  • Participating in work groups tasked with organizing and realizing various events and other projects. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

A successful candidate will have these skills and characteristics:

  • Outstanding writing ability and strong verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks on overlapping timelines. 
  • Competence with standard office software for word processing, time management and email. 
  • Dedication to inclusivity in working with diverse populations. 
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement. 

Some additional skills that would help you stand out are:

  • Graphic design 
  • Video editing 
  • Website management 
  • Client Relationship Management (CRM) system experience 

Education and Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or related fields is desired. Closely related professional experience will be considered in lieu of educational credentials. 
  • Two years of experience in communications or related field. Entry-level candidates with demonstrated skills obtained through prior educational or volunteer experiences will be considered. 
  • Nonprofit experience and experience related to disability issues are highly valued.

This is a full-time, exempt position based at the WCBVI offices at 754 Williamson St, Madison, WI 53703. A hybrid arrangement may be considered. Occasional evening and weekend hours can be expected. The starting salary range is $47,000 to $49,000. WCBVI offers an attractive benefit package.
