In this role, you will join a talented, fun, and collaborative team of writers, editors, and designers as you explore your interests in communications and create content that will enhance your professional portfolio.

The communications intern will collaborate with the company’s engineers, scientists, and business-support group staff to develop communications that help demonstrate the company’s capabilities, as well as the positive outcomes that Barr delivers for clients and communities. As you develop communications and marketing materials for Barr, you will learn about the diverse and fascinating fields of engineering and environmental science, exploring topics ranging from water management to mining to alternative energy and climate resiliency.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Write, edit, and design persuasive proposals and presentations in collaboration with engineers, scientists, and fellow business development and communications specialists 
  • Work with Barr’s communications team to develop blog articles 
  • Create content for news releases and Barr.com 
  • Develop social media posts for platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram 
  • Apply Barr’s newly updated visual and written brand guidelines to create marketing materials 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ongoing enrollment in communications, marketing, or related program 
  • Junior or senior standing, with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship 
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Attentiveness to details and deadlines 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Ability to learn quickly 
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or interest in learning, InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Acrobat software 
  • Experience resizing and editing images for various applications 
  • A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position.

A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
