Incorporated in 1971, Rise is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization which supports people who have disabilities and other barriers. We are an industry leader, and offer the people we serve the greatest possible level of community integration and a wide range of programming choices so that they may meet their goals.

Most of our programs are intended to assist the people we serve in finding employment opportunities that fit their career objectives and skills. We also have life enrichment programs and mental health support services, as well as programs assisting people in finding safe, affordable housing in some Central Minnesota counties. Rise strives to support the people we serve in the ways they want, such that each individual can achieve their personal measure of vocational achievement, self-sufficiency, and belonging in their communities.

The Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities and overall goals of the Advancement Department. Projects and duties can be customized based on intern’s interests and learning objectives. This internship focuses primarily on tasks related to...

Projects and Duties:

Communications

  • Alongside Communications and Volunteer Manager, coordinate Rise internal communications via Rise’s intranet (RiseNET), email, and Microsoft Teams’ channels, ensuring accurate and timely information. 
  • Support the launch of Rise’s new website by writing copy and updating content.

Grants

  • Maintain and update grants calendar and other grants-related administrative tasks. 
  • Assist in the preparation, drafting, and submission of both government and private grants. 
  • Transform language from completed grants into templates for use by advancement team. 
  • Create, organize and maintain Rise communications and language templates.

Advancement Team Support

  • Support development communication efforts, events and projects, including Rise social media posts, 50th Anniversary communications, and annual Gala promotions, messaging, and scripts.

Time Commitment:

  • Full or part-time available 
  • Ideal timeline would be June – December 2021, but summer only is an option 
  • 16 hours per week minimum

Requirements:

  • Passion and aptitude for working in communications, public relations or a non-profit role. 
  • Familiarity or interest in basic graphic design, primarily using Canva. 
  • Highly organized, self-directed and detail-oriented personality with excellent time management skills. 
  • Strong written, oral communications, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work remotely and occasionally in the office (Spring Lake Park location) and various Metro Rise locations with access to personal internet and reliable transportation. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, social media, and internet applications. 
  • Maintain strict health record confidentiality guidelines. 
  • Comply with DHS background check and fingerprinting requirements.
