The Internal Communication Manager is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of assigned internal communication initiatives for Optum Home & Community. Primary responsibilities include proactively managing assigned aspects of internal communication, increasing and sustaining employee engagement, and ensuring team members understand their critical role in delivering unsurpassed service and have a strong sense of pride in the company.

The role works closely with the business executive leadership team on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages internal communication for Home & Community, owning the strategy for the Patient Assessments and Senior Community Care businesses 
  • Develops and implements strategic and tactical plans for internal communication initiatives that are aligned with Home & Community's overall communication efforts 
  • Works with Home & Community leadership to evaluate ongoing and long-term opportunities for communication to employees regarding Home & Community's business plans 
  • Deliver on consistent messaging, using standard communication procedures and programs that effectively support and advance our reputation and business goals 
  • Seeks and promotes new avenues for internal communication efforts. 
  • Manages the process of gathering content, writing, editing, and securing approval for assigned internal communication, including memos, intranet, presentations, etc. 
  • Directs the internal communication materials per established guidelines for acquired companies 
  • Helps create any necessary internal communication announcements for acquisitions 
  • Collaborates with Home & Community Director of Corporate Communications and the Home & Community communication team to ensure messages are aligned and accurate 
  • Drives key internal communication activities for Home & Community, including leader meetings, town hall meetings, etc. 
  • Assists with the Home & Community intranet and works closely with key constituents to ensure information is accurate and timely to meet the needs of employees 
  • Proactively builds effective relationships and positive communication with business leaders to ensure readiness to quickly respond internal communication requests within Home & Community 
  • Champions Home & Community brand standards in all internal communication 
  • Adheres to Associated Press Stylebook

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations 
  • 7+ years of project management, professional writing and editing experience 
  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans for internal communication initiatives 
  • 5+ years of experience with intranets and social media (i.e., blogs, podcasting, etc.) 
  • Experience working with full suite of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Experience building relationships with internal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifcations:

  • Healthcare experience 
  • Ability to translate clinical information into layman's terms
