The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and executing communication plans for U.S. Bank Wealth Management and Investment Services, which includes a range of businesses that focus on retail wealth management clients and institutional investors. This individual will report into the Wealth Management and Investment Services communications team – part of the company’s centralized Public Affairs & Communications organization – and will partner with communication strategists and business line partners to execute on internal and external communications objectives.

Their responsibilities will include developing strategic communication plans for senior leaders in Wealth Management and Investment Services, providing expert communications consultation and planning for product launches, employee and leader communications, and organizational initiatives. The individual will produce a biweekly internal newsletter and develop presentations for town halls and executive speaking engagements. The individual will also collaborate with other key stakeholders to develop holistic communications plans that include cross-enterprise communications, social media channels, external media opportunities, and storytelling on U.S. Bank’s owned platforms. This candidate will also contribute to the media relations work for WMIS by identifying media opportunities, writing pitches, occasionally staffing interviews and developing reports on results.

Ideal candidate will have communications experience in Financial Services or similarly complex and highly regulated industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult and provide strategic communions guidance and planning for senior leaders in WMIS 
  • Identify and develop new, creative communication approaches and refresh existing communication vehicles as appropriate 
  • Internal communications support – plan development, content creation, tactical implementation, tracking and reporting metrics 
  • Write stories for owned internal and external media platforms 
  • Manage and execute the bi-weekly Wealth Management newsletter; this includes gathering content submissions, writing and editing as needed, routing for reviews and distributing 
  • Provide media relations support – write pitches about products, trends and other interesting topics as well as occasional interview staffing, tracking and reporting results 
  • Identify media opportunities in the course of working with senior leaders and tracking industry trends 
  • Create PowerPoint presentations for highly visible executive events 
  • Implement communications strategies to increase cross-company awareness of capabilities and connectivity to other business lines 
  • Partner with central Public Affairs & Communications team on major initiatives that cross multiple business lines 
  • Collaborate with social media partners as part of communication planning process where appropriate 
  • Collaborate with Wealth Management and Investment Services communications team and other U.S. Bank communication peers to ensure consistency of message and no redundancy of efforts 
  • Minneapolis, Charlotte, Chicago and Denver are preferred locations; however, other locations would be considered for the ideal candidate.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience 
  • Eight to ten years of experience in communications activities 
  • Experience working in media relations support capacity 
  • Comfortable operating in a complex, fast-paced environment 
  • Modern, creative approach to communication strategy 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, diplomacy, and ability to gain buy-in from diverse teams 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • PowerPoint design skills 
  • Committed to always doing the right thing and representing USB with ethics and integrity

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Proven experience in developing and executing communication plans to help companies achieve objectives 
  • Experience consulting and advising senior leaders on communications strategy and execution 
  • Experience producing communication metrics reports 
  • Basic graphic design experience, while not required, would be a differentiator
